Visu-lite Cymabls Problem

Visu-lite Cymabls Problem

2003-12-26 by Brett

Hello, all. Happy Holidays to everyone!

For X-Mas I got a nice Visu-lite 16" cymabal, and I love the
look/feel of it. One thing I have noticed about it (other than its
unusual plug set up with what looks like stereo wire connectors) is
that the sound seems to be a bit on the low side. Could this be a
side effect of where the trigger is placed on the cymbal in relation
to where the rubber is placed on the cymbal? Just a little confused,
and when someone's available, a little help would be appreciated.
Thanks, everyone!

Brett

Hi Brett,

Tom placed spring clips on the cymbal so that he could remove the
heavy jack from the cymbal for more even response. When I started
using Visu-lites, I had them connected to my DTXpressI module. My
first reaction was completely unlike yours. I believe that the pad
type that I used was miscellaneous 2, and I also may have had the
DIP "attentuation" switch in the back of the module in the up
position, thoguht I don't think that would have made much difference.
Check the obvious voice and trigger settings, raising them as
necessary. Check the cable as well and try another input. If you
strike the cymbal on the acrylic near the spring clips, is the level
still low? If nothing helps, it's possible that a wire is loose. Did
you buy it from Drumbalaya or from Visu-lite directly?

Hey, Ed. Thanks for the response. My mom, of all
people, got me the Visu-lite through Drumbalaya.com.
I've spent some time with it since I've first posted,
and went back and reset the pad type to Misc 1, like
you did, and that alone really seemed to help out
leaps and bounds. So far, I really like this cymbal.
It really helps out with the feal of using real
cymbals. Volume issues aside, what's witht he stereo
wire-type connections on the Visu-Lites? For use with
older modules maybe? Just curious what they're for.
Thanks again for the response, Ed.

Brett,

Nice mom! The stereo spring clips come standard with all Visu-lites.
They are meant to keep the heavy jack off the body of cymbal and thus
not interfere with triggering so much. Enjoy the cymbal. I use Visu-
lites with everything, including a ddrum module, for which they were
not specifically designed (Tom started working on a dedicated ddrum
design but never followed through).
