Ride Cymbal Settings

Ride Cymbal Settings

2004-01-10 by ajkdrums

Hi Everyone, I'm new here, but some of you know me!

I just got an extra cymbal pad and bell pad for my DTXPress.

I'm noticing the ride only seems to be set up for ONE sound.
However, the CRASH pad is set for TWO sounds. I am trying to
set the ride up so I can use the BELL pad as the cymbal BELL and the
ride section as the ride. I'm not having luck. When I put the 2
zone pad there, it works. I have a custom cable set so the STEREO
jack splits into TWO quarter inch. The main right angle goes to the
ride. The secondary cable goes to the bell.

When I use BOTH pads, I have to use inputs 9/10. If I use a regular
choke cymbal, I can use it with the rim as bell and the main part as
the ride. That's not the feel I want though.

The bottom line is I want to make 9/10 the crash cymbal like the
regular crash cymbal. Then I want to be able to split the ride.

Is this POSSIBLE or am I blowing smoke????

Thanks in advance.

Andy,

Nice site. I'd never been there before. If I understand you
correctly, you can't trigger both the bell pad and the cymbal pad
through inputs 6 or 7 with a "Y" cable. The short story is that these
inputs are set up to work with so-called "stereo" cymbals, which
feature a piezo in the bow and an FSR switch on the edge to enable
the piezo to register a second sound, as well as choking; they will
not fire two piezos, whether in a single pad or in two separate pads,
regardless of creative cabling. In other words, "stereo" inputs are
glorified "mono" inputs, only delivering two voices under the special
condtions outlined above. Two piezos, whether in a single "dual-zone"
pad or two separate pads (like yours), require two separate inputs.
Input 9/10 was designed for that very situation, either with a stereo
cable for a single dual-zone (dual-piezo) pad or a TRS splitter for
two separate mono pads. Did that help?

Andy,,

One thing to keep in mind with the Dtxpress II is choking is only
available on zones 2, 6 & 7. So any cymbal that you need choking for
must be a stereo cymbal and must be put on one of these zones. Even
with the updated chipset, zones 9/10 do not provide choking.

If you want to add a crash (stereo pad PCY65S w/choking) and add a
bell pad (PCY10) to go with your existing ride cymbal (mono pad
PCY65), the simple way is to move the ride PCY65 and the bell pad
PCY10 up to inputs 9/10, using a "insert" Y-splitter cable. Then put
the new crash on input 6. That way both crash cymbals will then have
choking.
