Alex,

I forwarded the matter to MIS. That usually gets their attention.

The reality is that the volume of B&W is down to the point they sometimes have to reorder themselves and are waiting for the inputs. We are using inputs (e.g., the upgraded -- better dispersant -- original Eboni MK other than their current higher volume color materials.

I 'placed' an order over two weeks ago with MIS .. but never received verification.

I sent 5+ emails and left voice_mails with questions : no response.

I have no idea what's wrong: MIS Supply used to provide Great Customer Support.

Alex,

I hope MIS was able to get in touch with you.

I had great support from MIS in the past ..

I did receive a response from MIS. It appears with the older printers, they do not necessarily stock the parts, like chips. So, they have to buy them to fill the order. It takes some time to fulfill the order. They say the order has now shipped.

Will your Clear Base formula work with Jon Cone inks ?

I don't know. Edoni, Canon Lucia, and HP are the pigments I have used for a long time with the generic base with very good success.

If I were you I'd hold out for MIS as the other alternatives may be quicker but are also much more expensive. You should also try some flushing fluid in some empty cartridges as in my experience that can revive even very badly clogged printers. My 2100 hadn't been used for nearly 5 years and was totally clogged but MIS flushing fluid cleared it out over about a fortnight - you do have to be patient though. Whereabouts are you? If you are in the EC I have some old G-Quad inks you could try in your 2000, I think the relevant profiles are still part of the QTR download for older printers. They will need to be thoroughly agitated to disperse the pigment again though as I've had them for a while. I think the basic ink was from the same source used by MIS but they were not designed by Paul. I successfully used them for a while but preferred a multiple carbon inkset similar to EB6 as I favour warmer prints on matte paper.

Good luck whatever you do.

As noted off-list, I think the 1430 is a very well supported (by multiple suppliers) and reliable desktop printer.

The response I received from MIS on the matter indicated they did not stock the 2000P items and were trying to find a supply source. Frankly I think it's time to give up with the old machine.

STS inks will sell the inputs to my approach directly if it's a referral from me. I buy by the liter, mixing my own base. Most may find that volume too much for them. There is some indication that STS is now selling smaller than liter sizes, but as far as I know the inputs are not on their webpage. The generic base is not an STS product, nor is the toner I use.

As you can see from page 12 of http://www.paulroark.com/BW-Info/Eboni-Variable-Tone.pdf , that inkset in the 1430 prints a fairly good image that might match your monitor reasonably well with no profiles other than the Epson driver.

My approaches are not necessarily the best for all people. I'm a DIY type of guy. You may find that a more turnkey B&W approach fits you needs better.

And, I am having zero luck in re-activating my old Epson 2000P.
I can even inject water./alcohol/ammonia into the in cart tips within the carrier and
get solution to flow out the head... but absolutely no print pattern .. the K had 1 partially
functioning, but even that stopped.

SO, anyone know of the existence of a 4 or 6 ink printer ?
I know it is possible to do interesting shading, but it is sufficiently complex to get One quad inkset

I was hoping the 2000P could be recovered.

AND, with MIS, I have given up .. will purchase an alternate vendor's inks if I ever get a functioning printer !

Hi Alex,

It's really not a good idea to use alcohol and/or ammonia for this since both can damage the internal membranes of the head as well as not being good for the plastic parts. Additionally, when you say "inject" into the cart, it must be done very very gently since too much pressure can also damage the delicate innards of the head. (I speak from first hand experience, though it was a long time ago!)

If you don't want to buy one of the several excellent cleaning solutions available from various sources, you can make a good, cheap, and safe one from propylene glycol anti-freeze which can be found at auto supply and RV stores. The post that I got this from on another forum suggested diluting 1:1 with ammonia, but I used distilled water instead (since I was aware of what too much ammonia can do), and tinted it with just enough black ink to be visible on paper.

The 1430 is a 6 ink printer that works well with gray-scale inksets, and is fairly cheap especially when Epson has refurbs for around $200. You can also get around $75 on ebay for the inks that come with it if you don't use them.

Cheers,
Keith

Thanks All for the response and helpful ideas.

After 2 1/2 days of attempts but with No output from the printer, I have given up.
I thought I had installed cleaner carts when I stored it, not so . had OEM color
carts in it for over 10 years .. I guess totally dried and hardened pigment ink can not
be dissolved ... or perhaps it even damaged the piezo elements. At the end of the
cleaning attempts, the head did not seem to be 'clogged' in that I could inject cleaner into
the ink ports and even suck it back out, but the head remained 100% non functional.

I agree, I plan to purchase a 1430.

Regards,
Alex
