Welllll Jim....

the first thing I would do....

Is fire up the Piezography Software and pick the professionally profiled "paper profile" for my Piezo Inks and Torchon. Always gives lovely results on that paper.

But...then you have to take a different route...sorry I can't help you there.

P.S. I would not spray it..but others do.

Hi, well, I received my box of Media Streets Royal Ren. 189gm paper
today. I have been using only Epson AM until now. I was wondering if
anyone might have any tips they could possibly give me before I start
printing? Like which paper type do I choose, and should I use the (+)
setting on my printer for thinker paper. Also, should I spray this paper
afterwards with krylon UV#1305? I am printing on an Epson 1280 with MIS VM,
through Photoshop using mostly Tyler's colder curves. Is this paper good
for color also? I am using an Epson 820 with stock inks for color too, but
mostly I do black and white. Thanks in advance, take care.

Jim,

Tyler's RGB separation curves for MIS-VM ink and the Epson 1280 were
specifically made for Hahnemuhle Photo Rag, aka Media Streets Royal Ren. So
if you use the proper settings for those curves you will be right on target,
even better than on EAM. I generally never change the paper thickness lever
on my 1280's. The 189 gsm feeds just fine.

I don't know if spraying this paper will gain you much.

I have never used it for color. You will have to experiment with the driver
settings or have a custom ink/paper profile made which is probably the best
way to go. You might want to ask that question on the Archival Color list,
too.

RE: [Digital BW] Royal Renaissance tips?

2002-06-24 by Jim Panzer

Thanks for the tips Martin and Steadman!

I did do a print over the weekend that I have printed before on EAM. On
the EAM I have been very happy with the way it turns out, all though when I
did the same print on the Royal Ren. the picture was washed out and very
gray toned, no real blacks and no real whites, but I printed the same way I
do with the EAM, and the EAM looks great in my humble opinion. I am just
wondering where I went wrong? This may sounds silly but is there a
preferred side to print on with this paper? I looked for the paper work but
could find anything that stated one side over the other, all though the
surfaces do feel different. I will probably just do an experiment using the
other side, it's just this stuff isn't cheap as I am sure you all know.

If your going to print and you just want to increase the blacks in you
images is the general way of doing this through curves? OK, thanks again.

2002-06-24 by Steadman Uhlich

Hiyah Jim,

Actually, looking at Martin's post...I see I made a mistake (oops)...Martin is correct.

I was thinking the thread was a continuation of the questions regarding Torchon...(don't recall what Media Street calls that one).

If Royal Ren is Photorag...then use photorag profiles.

Good luck,

Re: [Digital BW] Royal Renaissance tips?

2002-06-24 by Jerry Olson

Royal Renaissance is the Media Street name for Photo Rag. It's a
hahnemuhle paper, and has fantastic quality, and deep blacks. One of the
best papers there is. Yes, there is a good and bad side for printing.
Using Paul Roark's curves and the MIS VM inkset, the print settings are
nearly identical to those I use for Epson Archival Matte paper.

Jerry,

Have you tried Eclipse Satine? How does an image printed on Satine (Bright
White) compare to Hahnemuhle Photo Rag using Paul's curves and the MIS
VM inkset? I am using a G4 , the 1280, and the neutral curve. I have been
using EAM and Satine with good results (I took your advice and make a levels
adjustment on Satine bringing the middle bar to 85). What adjustments are
necessary, using EAM as a proofing standard, when switching to Photo Rag
(you say 'nearly' identical)? Is it the same as Satine?

Best Epson driver workflow for Piezo/FS inks?

2002-06-24 by Todd Flashner

I know this has been discussed already but perhaps things have changed since
then. What is currently the best Epson driver workflow for Piezo and FS
inks? Particularly for an 1160.

Thanks,
Todd

Re: [Digital BW] Royal Renaissance tips?

Haven't had a lot of experience with photo rag because of the cost. I
seem to remember it is nearly the same as Epson Archival, as far as
settings go though.

Yes, I use Eclipse Satine all the time.

The Hahnemuhle papers all have deeper blacks than any other paper maker
that I've ever seen. Their blacks are REALLY black. Some have flaking
problems, so wipe down each sheet of paper with a soft rag or soft brush
before printing on it, and store them carefully. Don't shuffle them in a
stack like you would the epson papers. They are more delicate.

Re: Best Epson driver workflow for Piezo/FS inks?

2002-06-24 by jrandall1149

Todd:

Things haven't changed very much for the 1160/MIS-FS inkset
combination.

I would still suggest you try the 1160 Partitioned Workflow (version
E) located in the Files section here: Files> Ink Sets> MIS> MIS FS
or on the MIS Workflow page:
www.inksupply.com/index.cfm?source=html/workflow.html

If you are looking for a simple lumped (nonpartitioned workflow), I
suggest you try Woolf's workflow located on the MIS Workflow page.

A *semi-quantitative* way to generate or tweak either partitioned or
lumped workflow curves using a scanner is presented in
profile_make2.pdf located in the Files section here: Files> Ink Sets>
MIS> MIS FS.

Good Luck.

Move to quarantaine

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
