Help! 1160 Printing Problem

Help! 1160 Printing Problem

2001-09-22 by Tim Spragens

Sorry for littering the box of those on multiple lists, but for me this is urgent.

My printer starts printing without difficulty, either a text file or an image, then both the ink lights
come on solid, the paper feed and on light flash, and nothing more happens. This happens with
or without using the Piezo plug-in, on USB or Parallel ports.

Anyone have an idea what's going on here? Is it something I can address, or is it one for Epson?

Thanks,

Tim

Tim,

Do you have the manual? There should be a section that tells you what
the different light combination means. The combination you describe
on my 1270 means there is a paper jam. The instructions are to turn
off the printer. Clear any jams and turn the printer back on. If this
doesn't work it says to call Epson.

I hate to say it but it looks like one for Epson. Hpefully someone
has a better suggestion.

Thanks Martin,

I didn't find that manual in my pile on a first look but with a bit more poking around and a light
lubrication of the guide rail, it seems to be printing again.

I had forgotten that the original problem happened after the support arm of the CIS had sagged,
and the head/cartridge mechanism had run over the tubing. This has happened more than once,
I don't think this cantilever is as effective as a full-spanning bridge would be, I'll have to do some
rigging.

Tim, Julian,

Is it a case of the Velcro separating or the bottom Velcro coming
loose from the printer? I have problems on my 1200 due to the
adhesive failure.

[Digital BW] Re: Help! 1160 Printing Problem

2001-09-23 by Martin Wesley

Julian,

When I got my latest CIS from NoMoreCarts for the 1280 it included
some alcohol wipes to clean the contact points on the printer. I seem
to have a better adhesive bond on this printer. I may just try some
epoxy and make it permanent.

Thanks,
Martin

This is the clear plastic support arm for the CIS ink tubing that
holds it up above the print head carriage as the carriage moves back
and forth during printing. The arm is attached to the case of the
printer under the lid on the right side by using one half of a pair
of Velcro pieces. The bottom piece has a peal off contact adhesive to
hold the Velcro to the printer case. The other side of the Velcro is
attached to the CIS support arm.

It looks like the adhesive gets tired after awhile, slowly comes
loose and the support arm droop lower and lower and finally will
impact with the moving print head if you don't spot it in time or the
lines will start to dray. Makes a horrible sound and is not likely to
be very good for the printer.

If you don't have a CIS, it is hard to describe without pictures.

Martin
