UK Print Exchange-to compare different systems.

UK Print Exchange-to compare different systems.

2003-06-07 by martinshakeshaft

I am currently using an Epson 2100 (2200) with the Archival Matte
paper and Matte Ink for my black and white output. Whilst I am
moderately happy I would like to improve things if I could. In
daylight the b/w's are cold/neutral but under fluorescent lights
everything goes a bit magenta (too much for my taste).

At the moment I am just doing work prints, but later in the year I
will be making 50 exhibition prints. My options are to go back to a
wet darkroom or to improve the output I am getting, either by using a
different inkset or buying a 1290 with a dedicated B/W inkset....
decision.. decisions.....

I was wondering if any fellow UK list subscribers would like to do a
print exchange so we can compare what options are available. I would
be happy to co-ordinate things. Just let me know if you are
interested.

Cheers

Martin

Yes definitely interested as I am in a similar situation as
yourself. I am currently using Permajet VT Blax onto either Epson
Archival Matte or Folex Duo. However I am running into problems
which affects only certain prints with the tones not being properly
rendered when printing with the colour cartridge; if I use black only
then the tones are there properly (albeit not to the same clarity)
but I don't have the polarisation that seems to happen with the
colour cartridge. Paul R was very helpful in trying to nail the
problem but I could not find out what it was (Paul, the head did
clean eventually).

I am now trying to re-profile my papers using the Epson colour inkset
so that I can use glossy paper too.

Count me in, my mail is at the top or you can get me through my
website below.

Maybe I'm missing something, but there is a whole family of options
for improvement other than the two you mention. These involve
addtional software to drive your 2100/2200, such as ImagePrint,
Epson's Pro RIP, and OPM/IJC (www.bowhaus.com). The latter one is
the only one that's free, except it's $200 if you want to be able
to tweak your own profiles. It's Mac-only though.

Is there anyone that would like to do a mini print exchange with me?
I am looking for examples of B/W prints using the 2100(2200). I am
particularly intersted in the Epson Pro RIP or any other alternative
method that can be applied to a PC based setup.

I am getting half reasonable results with my 2200 but do suffer with
too much metamism.........

Cheers
