Hi, I would like to use a 1280 to print in both color and b&w using refillable cartridges. Can can someone tell me if the ultratone and MIS archival color inks carts be swapped back and forth? Thanks very much, Manuel

Manuel, The Ultra Tone inkset is based on the MIS 7600 inkset. MIS sells a version of this for the 1280 -- the "GP" Archival inkset. See http://www.inksupply.com/index.cfm?source=html/arcink_gp.html So, the most compatible inkset for the UT inks would be this color inkset that is based on the same chemistry. Paul, Thanks again making your experience available to the group members. Could I take advantage of your generosity once more and ask you for advice on storing partially used cartridges? Do I need to do anything special? I know that in a previous message you mention that you use tape to cover the cartridge holes. A specific kind of tape? Should I do things like printing something with the cartridges that have been out of the printer for a few days to keep the ink from drying up? Manuel, >...advice on storing partially used cartridges? ... I just take out the cartridge, wipe the outlets on a paper towel, and immediately put Scotch tape across the outlets and up the side to hold it. I also stick the sides of the tape up on the front and back edges of the outlets. So, it forms a bit of a trough to catch any ink leakage. I store the carts on a paper towel or surface that will not be damaged by a leak if there is one. I think using tape is much easier than the rivets and may actually require fewer cleaning cycles when the cart is re-inserted. So far, I've had no problems with dried ink getting in to the intakes. I remove the tape when I re-insert the carts. It may be OK to just poke through the tape, but I have not tried it. Paul http://www.PaulRoark.com
