AS does B&H at 379, you have to add it to your cart to get that price though. --- Steven Karafyllakis <steve@...> wrote:

hmmm... this kind of price drop usually means a new model right around the corner-anyone hear anything about a replacement for the 1280? Wouldn't that have been the 2000 and 2200? All three are 13" wide printers, IIRC (my mind's sketchy on the 2000). There's some speculation that the 2200 may be updated soon, with technology from the R800, namely 8 inks, gloss enhancer, and 1.5 picolitre droplets (down from 4 picolitre of the 1280 and 2200). Anne

The 2XXX series is pigment based and has coexisted with the 12XX for several years. My guess is if they do upgrade it they'll add the diect-CD printing capability, and maybe a card reader version, like the R300/200 printers. A 13in version of the R800 would be great though! Steve

Better yet is buying one direct from Epson for $299 (after $100 rebate) and free shipping. But Epson direct gives you the OEM version of Elements 2.0 for free and you can upgrade the OEM version of Elements to PS CS for something cheap, like $300. So if you're going to buy PS CS, you can get a free 1280 by going through the proper steps. Unlike many companies, Epson does send the $100 rebate quickly and in an envelope that you won't mistake and throw away. And Adobe ships the full version of PS CS the next day. Best thing is with MIS ink, the 1280 is still an incredible b&w printer, comparable to anything else out there today. However, you must judge by print quality, not specs. NOTE: Upgrade does not apply to Photoshop Elements, Photoshop Album, Photoshop Limited Edition, or PhotoDeluxe licensed users."

I upgraded my Elements 2 to PSCS for $299, shipped via Canada (my uncle) and then posted here. It would cost £500 to upgrade from EL2 in the UK!! You can only upgrade the OEM version of Elements, the one that come free packaged with hardware. It's specified on the Epson website. Of course you can't buy Elements for $79 then upgrade it for $299. That's why you only read about it on the hardwared manufacturers websites, but not Adobe's I guess it's a US / Canada deal only.
