2 QTRpc questons

2 QTRpc questons

2004-10-10 by Tom OConnell

Hi-

Loading the loopback adapter got my first print session going fine
except that it killed my internet connection. So I tried deleting it
and it would not, but finally found that by canceling printer
sharing, I could connect to the internet. Is this normal?

In ver.25 there is no longer a paper profile to select...is there any
issue as to which paper to use? glossy?

thanks,

tom

I'm not having any problem with interference - I'm on dial-up, BTW.

Under Control Panel/Network Connections I have three headers
"Dial-up", "LAN or High-Speed Internet" and "Wizard", with my internet
connection in the first and the loopback adaptor in the second under
subheading "Local Area Connection". All are enabled.

Hope that helps,

Frank

Thanks, Frank. That's just how I was set up. The only difference is
that I also had a coupld of wireless networks available and I was
connected at the time to an ethernet network (but only had internet
access, not local network access).

I'm beginning to think I didn't need the loopback...that maybe I
could have just enabled printer sharing?

Would anyone know if being connected to a wireless network satisfies
the "always on network" requirement???

thanks again,

tom

A wireless network absolutely counts as a network and would not require a
loopback.

Thanks Brently...I will try to uninstall the loopback adapter and I
should be fine.

PS- we all owe a big thanks to Roy and Stephen. Roy, you really have
an amazing app...

Wireless should suffice. Get rid of the loopback adapter and then share your
printer.

Thanks Stephen. I'm still having a problem.

I have one laptop that I use in two locations with 2 different 2200s.

Should I be able to just change the printer sharing (delete on one
and use the same Quad2200 name on the other) and select in the GUI
dialog box...then just print? or is there another issue with using 2
different printers?

thanks in advance...hate to pester you.

RE: [Digital BW] Re: 2 QTRpc questons

You shouldn't have to delete either. Just select the printer that is
connected. (If you don't have version 0.26, you should download it, it
allows you to select printers from your normal printer list--takes care of
the SHARE name automatically.)

Thanks, Stephen-

I now have .26 but have the same result. I drop an 8bit GS .tif
240dpi image on the print area of the GUI and it shows "Quadtone RIP
is printing" but after about 30 seconds the message disappears and
nothing happens.

Looking at the QTRlog, it shows the last line

ERROR: Unable to write raster data to driver!

I've read and reread all the stuff on both websites and the files
that came with both downloads and cannot find any variance from the
instructions... Guess I should wait till I'm back with the first
printer or try the loopback adapter again (though I don't see why
since the GUI definitely distinguishes between printers that are
shared and those that are not).

If you have any ideas, it would be great.

cheers,

tom

Tom,

I don't know if this will help but...

I tried for two weeks to print using the 2200 shared, a USB
connection, and the loopback adapter. I messed with firewalls,
settings, etc. Yet I could not make it work and got the
same "unable to write raster data to driver" message every time.

Stephen then suggested (after version .26) that I attach a parallel
printer cable to the 2200 (in addition to the USB connection). I
gave the parallel connection the "Quad2200" share name. I also
disabled the loopback adapter. I did all that today and finally got
it to work (with all the firewalls enabled.) Thank goodness...and
thanks Stephen.

Fred-

I assume you then print with the parallel port? and the USB
connection is just to "share" on the network or to print with the OEM
driver or other rip?

Tom,

Yes, when using QTR I print using the parallel port on which the
2200 is "shared." I do not share the USB connection (I use the USB
connection for non-QTR printing on the 2200.) I am not on a network
and do not use the loopback adapter.

If you are using the parallel port, there is no need to Share the printer.

You are correct. There is no reason to share the parallel port
printer.

Just curious? How difficult would it be for you to hook your printer up with
Firewire? I see in my network connections that my Firewire connections are
listed. Maybe an answer to the networking issues? Also might print faster
for you.

Fred-

I don't see how you can set up the printer with both USB and Parallel
ports? I need to keep the USB for other printing???

I must have something else set up wrong since so many have used it
just following the instructions.

This is starting to turn into a much bigger effort than I wanted to
make <sigh>. I think I'll just put this puppy on the back burner for
a while and get some printing done <<g>

thanks for your help.

Tom,

If you have a parallel printer cable, turn off the computer and the
printer. Attach the parallel cable to the 2200 (leave the USB cable
connected too.) Attach the other end of the parallel cable to the
back of your computer. Turn on the printer. Turn on the computer.
If you are in "plug and play" mode, Windows will discover what it
thinks is a NEW printer and complete the connections for you. A new
printer icon will show up under "Printers and Faxes" (probably
called Epson 2200-copy 1). Then, when using QTR (or QTRGui is even
better) select Epson-copy 1 as your printer.

If you need more help with this, just holler.

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
