QTR Anguish!!

QTR Anguish!!

2004-12-30 by johnlill2@yahoo.com

I still cannot print from QTR/QTRGui. I completely uninstalled and
went back to an older version of QTR that I used many times
previously. I can't even print from that any more. I drop a tif on
the bat file and I don't get any error messages but nothing prints.
Yes - my printer is on and I can print from other apps. Any ideas
would be greatly appreciated!

What about the log files when using QTRgui? Anything in there?

Also, your image is 8-bit, right?

Michael,

Yeah - one of the log files had a message that it could not load the
ppd file. The file was there but maybe corrupted. So I blew away
c:\program files\quadtonerip and reinstalled the old version. Now
that works! I'll try reinstalling QTRGui tomorrow. Enough for one
night!

Thanks for your help!

There must be old and new files mixed together. So you should
completely remove the directory before you install the latest QTR
again (The latest QTR contains the latest QTRgui in one installer).

Hi Folks

I am having the same problem with the 2.1.7 GUI. Probably something
I did wrong. As suggested, I deleted the old folder and reinstalled.
QTR will not print when launched from the Start Menu. I see the same
disappearance fo the preview but no printer activity. Also, no log
file is created. I did reboot, but didn't seem to help. However, I
seem to have found a work-around. G
I go to the \Program Files\QuadTonePCbeta3\bin folder and launch the
QTRgui.exe from there. Seems like sometimes I have to close and
relaunch after printing a few pages as the failure to print seems to
pop back up.

Hope this helps or may give a lead to the problem.

Bill

Why is your installation in ...\QuadTonePCbeta3 folder?

http://www.harrington.com/QTRPC/QuadToneRIPSetup_2.1c.exe should
install to C:\Program Files\QuadToneRIP folder by default. And QTRgui
should be installed to the ...\QuadToneRIP\bin folder automatically.

Perhaps you need to get rid of old, possibly invalid, shortcuts to QTRgui.
How did you get a folder named \Program Files\QuadTonePCbeta3? That would
not be the normal folder for QTR to be installed in.

I have also installed QTR v2.1c and found nothing happens when the Print
button is pressed.

I uninstalled it and reinstalled 2.1b and now that crashes when I press the
Print button with "quadtoprinter.exe has encountered a problem and needs to
close..."

Thanks for any advice.

I'm having exactly the same problem and of course the problem log doesn't
help because it doesn't appear at all when the program won't print. I find
that if I turn off the printer, restart the program, click the print button
and *then* turn the 2200 back on it usually works. I would say I have
problems 2/5 times and there must be a little bug in the program
somewhere. But...oh...the print quality - wow. It will certainly make my
workflow a little easier if this problem is fixed with an updated
version. That said, I've very grateful to Mr. Harrington and Mr. Billard
for this wonderful, inexpensive RIP. I use a Windows 2000 computer for
editing and just recently found out from a friend that Quadtone RIP was
available for Windows. I've been making test prints on a 2200 with stock
inks and an 1160 with UT inks. Interestingly enough, I prefer the 2200
prints so far - which is quite surprising.

I have a similar problem with QTR/QTRgui 2.1.1

I also drop a tif on the target area and nothing happens. Just a flash of the dos file and then everything disappears. But then one day I tried it again while I was online and everything worked just fine. I have the 1280 with UT2 inks and it will only print with QTRgui while I am online.

Hope this helps

ps: I installed QTRgui 2.1.7 after rebooting nothing happened either online or offline

There is definetly some sort of "bug" in 2.1.7 because I can't go
back to an earlier version either. My problem is merely that the
9600 wants to go into sheet feed mode before it wants to print even
though I have "roll feed cutter on" selected. I tried dumping
everything and starting from scratch and the 2.1.7 GUI window
appears even though I'm trying to load 2.1.6. I can "live" with the
printer not cutting since I make about a dozen B&W's a year, but if
I ever get that dream order :((

Log me in as another with similar/same problems as above with regard
to inability to print after selecting an image. Get the thumbnail,
press print and the thumb goes away. Nothing is sent to the spooler.

I went through the routine of purging all extraneous debries, still
present after many updates and cleaned the registery as well. No joy.
One of the previous posts re:images in the same folder as the
program being printable got me thinking along those lines.
The current version (on my system at least) can not print files from
any disk drive except C: Will work on C: to any reasonable file
depth but not on D: or H:, at any folder depth.

Will continue to lurk, watch and hope.

Re: QTR Anguish!!

Stephen,

I followed your procedures, ie: used your uninstall utility, then
reinstalled the version with 2.1.7 and then installed 2.1.8. The same
problem remains: I click print, the picture disappears but no printing
takes place. In case it helps to know, here are some details.

1. Yesterday was my first install of the either QTR or the Gui
program. There had been no previous installation on my computer.
2. I can usually get the program to print if I turn off the Epson 2200,
click the "print" button in the GUI, wait a moment, then turn the printer
on again. (This is not ideal, of course, but it seems to work)
4. I'm running Windows 2000

Thanks for being so attentive to trying to resolve this. There are much
more expensive programs out there with not nearly this level of support to
customers. When they work, these two programs together are wonderful.

Cheers,

Sean Reid
