Cleaning Cone Inks from a 7600

Cleaning Cone Inks from a 7600

2005-01-06 by Shilesh Jani

Hey,

I want to remove Cone's PiezoTone inks loaded on a 7600, to be replaced with Epson UC
inks. What is the best procedure to do this?

Thank you.

Hmm... Remove cartridges...straighten out some coat-hangers...roll
some $50.00 bills on the end of the coat-hangers... swab the lines
with the $50.00 bills... repeat as neccessary....

Hey, it worked for me!

Put in cleaning carts, you can get them from mediastreet.com. First
make sure your maintainance tank is nowhere near full. Do an init
fill. Let the printer sit that way for about 24 hours, doing a
cleaning cycle every few hours, and a couple of power cleanings thrown in.
Then put in the UC carts and do another init fill.

Init fill wastes allot of cleaning fluid/inks. You can save lots if you
disconnect ink lines at dampers and draw the cleaning fluid/inks with a
syringe. Then run a few KK2s until you get it to run clear. I would
also change the dampers, there is sure to be some pigments stuck in
filter screens.

Epson will gladly help you with this at no charge,
since it means you are going to be buying their inks
from now on. When I did it with my 7600, they shipped
me the flushing carts on loan and talked me through
the process. Then I returned the carts. There is no
reason to buy flushing carts.

Even if it's out of warranty?

Thanks for the info.

Is this, at the same time, when they will blame all future ink related
hardware problems on the third party inks and now "its not covered"? I
would rather do the changeover on my own and claim in the future that
there never was anything but genuine Epson inks in it.

Epson had just done two head replacements, plus
replaced the dampers and caps all under warranty, in
spite of the fact that I was running Cone inks. The
first Epson tech who came out even helped me try to
get the Cone inks up and running again! When that
failed, and I decided to go back to UC, they shipped
me the flushing carts free.

Yes, very true. But I have no experience with getting to the dampers
with a x600, seems a lot of disassembly is required, so didn't want to
steer in that direction personally.

Must be a location (part of the world) thing. Every Epson and third
party service company that has come in here has literally yelled to me
about them NOT covering anything ink related because of third party
inks, end of story. Where are you?

Central California. The service guys were out of San
Jose. The first guy who did the first head
replacement was really nice. He had a terminal
disease and didn't seem to care about anything but
trying to do some good for the people whose machines
he was servicing. The second guy they sent out for
the second head replacement was the hatchet man. He
delivered an ultimatum of no more service if the
machine was running third party inks.

The first guy told me that he once did four head
relpacements for a Cone ink user (with whom I happened
to be acquainted). When I told the second guy this,
he just repeated his ultimatum.

So you are saying when I need service to ask for the oldest, sickest
technician they got?
