Anyone using Inkrepublic damper system? Need help with BO 1280 printer

2005-01-16 by jim0266

Does anyone use the Inkrepublic damper system in their CFS? I
black-only print on my 1280 using an MIS cart filled with Eboni ink. I
was eager to try out the Inkrepublic spongless system to replace the
Epson cart MIS uses because the sponge seems to be the main source of
problems with these systems.

However, when I install the Inkrepublic damper I lose all my black
nozzles. If I reinstall the original epson cart or the MIS CFS
cartridge I get the nozzles right back. I am completely stumped and
open to anything stupid I may have overlooked. The Inkrepublic damper
uses a clip to seal off the tube while installing or removing the
damper and I am releasing that before printing, so first obvious item
is checked off the list...

You can see their setup at http://www.inkrepublic.com/inkkits.asp

You might try asking the same question in the Yahoo Epson Printer Group. A few of the
members of that group have used the ink republic damper system.

No experience but .....

It is interesting to see that a CIS manufacturer addresses the
problems related to adding a CIS to a desktop printer. The
damper/sieve should have a larger size than what is available
in the normal cart/head given the quantity of ink that should
go through the system and the less "clean room" conditions of
ink filling.

What surprises me is the advice to fill the damper from the
seal side, the side that will fit on the head. That's what it
looks like on the web page, am I wrong in that observation ?
Any filth that gets at that side of the damper will flow to
the head.

If you take the damper out and keep it lower than the
bottle, does the ink flow ? Is the tube in the bottle not
stuck to a wall of the bottle ? If not then your problem may
be that the filter in the black damper got clogged right away.
Any restrictions of the CIS manufacturer on the use of dye
inks versus pigment inks ? If there's no flow and the tube is
free in the bottle then you could take off the damper and
clean it with a reverse flow with cleaner fluid but make sure
the last cleaning goes with the flow.

The CIS system looks well designed.

Martin, thanks I will look on that group as well.

Ernst, you are correct about filling the damper. After you place the
tube in the ink bottle, you take a small bottle they supply, squeeze
the air out of it, and then place the tip of the bottle into the
outlet hole of the damper. The ink is then drawn up into the damper
through the tube. You then clamp off the line with a stopper to
prevent ink from spilling out.

I should have mentioned I am using MIS Eboni pigment ink in this
damper. My friend's theory is that this ink is too thick to flow
through the filter in their damper.
