Wrong Ink Carts warning

Wrong Ink Carts warning

2005-06-23 by Steve Smith

I am trying to install a Continuous Feed System on a virgin 7600. I am
trying to perform the initial ink charging with second party inks and I am
getting the " wrong ink carts" warning. I am wondering if there is a work
around that anyone knows of. Thanks in advance

The chips on the cartridges tell the printer what ink is in them. The most
likely scenario is that the black ink cart - which can be matte or photo black -
is opposite of what you told the printer you were loading. Unfortunately
once you are in that state I think you have to load a properly chipped cart
to proceed.

I wonder if you could turn off the ink detection setting to avoid
this. Check the files in the Epson wide format group for the African
ink change method. I'm pretty sure that lists the menu settings
needed to accomplish this. I don't have an X600 printer, so I'm just
guessing.

I understood the 7600/9600 setup differently. The initial carts that
come w/the printers are special. These printers can run either dye or
pigments. When someone orders a dye version, the initial dye carts are
slipped into the door on the box. Same for the pigment version. The
black carts don't have this special programming.

There is nothing special about the carts. If the printer gets dye
ink, it sets itself for dye, if it gets pigment, it sets for pigment.

I think the problem might be initializing the printer with third
party carts, and it may not like that. Turning off the ink check may
allow the printer to initialize with any cart installed even third
party carts. Then again it may not.
