‘Possible idea on hoped for availability of MIS 2400 inks

‘Possible idea on hoped for availability of MIS 2400 inks

2005-10-08 by jerry78008

I am wondering if there is anything anyone might suggest on this end
regarding the hold up on the availability of the inks and cartridges
for the Epson 2400.
We have telephoned MIS a number of times, but the response is that MIS
is only waiting for the chip maker to provide chips for the MIS 2400
cartridges.
Apparently the ink is ready/ And the 2400 is listed to use the same
cartridges as the R1800 family. Paul Roark posted that he had
received a shipment of 2400 inks over a week ago, but they may have
been black only.
Perhaps those of us that have 2400's could use the chips that are on
the existing original Epson (and easily spent) cartridges, use MIS
2400 inks, and reset the existing 2400 chips with the chip resetter,
unless they are un-rest-able.

It has been months. We here have 2400's ready to use the MIS 2400
inks, `Just attempting some communication on this point. It seems not
a small or insignificant point, at least to those on my end.
Any of this make sense ?

The chips are, apparently, the only missing piece.

Most of the other inks appear to be the same as or can be made from the MIS
Pro inkset, but not the LLK.

Hello Jerry,

This is possible, I've done it. There is only one potential problem -
the Epson 2400 chips (which ARE resettable), do not fit perfectly in
the MIS carts. It seems that the hollow space under the chip is not
deep enough for the little lump of plastic on the underside of the
chip. The result is that it doesn't seat firmly and wobbles around a
bit. However, the little blob of sticky stuff does prevent it from
falling off and it worked fine when I put it in the printer.

Regards,
Clayton

Clayton,

Which MIS carts are you using in the 2400? I noticed that they now
have a page up for the bulk MIS 2400 inks, but are not yet selling them.

Carl,

I purchased carts for my R200, but my understanding is these are the
same as for R1800, R800, C86, etc., and only the chips are different.

I asked MIS if they'd sell me the carts without a chip (for a lower
price of course) and they don't have any that way. Apparently they
order them already chipped.

I've wondered if the poor-fit problem is the cause of the delay.
Perhaps the 2400 chip circuitry requires a bigger bump on the bottom
and the cart's chip well simply isn't deep enough. If that's the
case, then it will require a redesign of the chip or the cart.
Someone said that We-Ink also doesn't have a chip yet. Just
speculation, but there has to be a reason for the delay...

Regards,
Clayton

I believe that WeInk ships all their refillable carts without chips,
not just the 2400 which if I remember correctly uses the same plastic
as the R1800/800. Ink Republic has a CIS system for the 2400, so the
chips can't be too much different from what is available.

I am not using any MIS 2400 carts - or MIS 2400 inks for that matter,
that is the problem. `Just waiting. None of the 2400 materials are yet
for sale, to the best of my knowledge, and I check literally several
times a day. But I am hoping for a way to facilitate the opening of
the logjam. The 2400 is getting into the hands of many of my students
and associates and we are at the mercy of the exorbitant factory Epson
materials.

It’s probably just too much glop-top on the chip for the MIS carts. Either
the engineer neglected to put a height limit on the drawing, or the mfg.
made an error.
It would be very surprising to me if Epson decreased the amount of chips per
wafer by making them bigger. Who knows, we will have to be patient a little
longer.

Best regards,
John Moody

WeInk and Ink Republic has been shipping products (including ink) for
the 2400 for several months. If you students print a large amount,
the Ink Republic system would be a good deal. If you have many
students who all own the same printer, then they could buy the ink in
larger amounts and split it between themselves. It gets pretty cheap
in the 500ml sizes from WeInk's "no support" site of
http://www.getinkexpress.com you are looking for the 9800 set. I use
part of this set in my 9500 and my cx6600 (some of the inks are
common with the UltrPro ink that I use).
