ImagePrint Gets No Love?

ImagePrint Gets No Love?

2006-10-24 by FRD

I've been slowly absorbing the vast knowledge of this group over the past
few months. I am very new to inkjet printing but realized there could be
more to just printing natively off my newly acquired R2400 when I read
several glowing reviews on ImagePrint v6.

Going over recent memory, I can't seem to recall anyone using this RIP and
if its made a huge difference in their prints. Is there some reason for
that?

Relatively, there are not that many copies of IP in circulation due to the cost. I've used it on my 9600 and found it performed just as advertised. But, you pay for it.

Yep. There's truth to that, too.

tom, I just ordered the imageprintlite for my hp dj30 for B&W. Now
I know it won't be the ultimate(because of only one black), but I'm
certainly having buyer's second thoughts. got anything that'll make
me hang on until it arrives :-P -----ron s.

It interests me, because of the reviews you mention, but the "trial version"
for Windows doesn't print, and I'm not about to spend $500 (or whatever the
lite version is) without seeing for myself that it's worth the money.

I bought IPv5.6 when I got my Epson 7600 almost 3 years ago and
upgraded to IPv6 when it came out. I also got PhotoShop CS. I can
tell you I love IP far more than I love PS - I mainly use PS just to
use the Genuine Fractals plugin for enlarging my 8x10 and 11x14 scans
up to 24x30. GF does a fabulous job for me and the latest version of
GF has some great improvements. I print only B&W (for
AAubreyBodine.com) and I really like the tint feature of IP - using
it more and more. For the heavy lifting digital restoration work my
team and I use Ulead's PhotoImpact (still using v6) - by far and away
THE BEST tool for retouching - much faster and more convenient that
what PS offers (for my needs). We've got 12,000 scans and so far
restored almost 1,700 of them. This business is proving the truth
of "the long tail" of retailing (see longtail.com for details). IP
creates neutral B&W. We're a Windows shop and never have had a
problem (but I do have 40 years of computer experience). I got
enough support during the first year to get into a very productive
workflow. So, in short, I do love IP.

I can tell you that they do a great job with 2 blacks for b&w. I can't picture how one black works as well. But, there are a legion of black only people that probably feel differently.

I bought mine through a retailer that could demo IP for me. They printed a 16x20 for me. It didn't have the 'demo' all over it either. I was sold.

I can recommend IP6. For me, the issue is time and ease of use. With IP, I
can usually nail the print the first time. It is easy to use, and there are
profiles to download for about any paper. IP has a 30-day return policy, so
you can see for yourself - I think you will find that it is worth the money.

I bought V 5.0 for my 7000. I am not always happy with the upgrade price.
However the print quality has for the most part, made me very happy.

At one time ImagePrint caused a great deal of excitement by having prebuilt
settings allowing users to print black and white with minimal color, and no
yellow at all, so that metamerism (color shifting under differing lighting
conditions) was reduced. But once other options (including the 2400's own abilities
to minimize color ink) were available, the rather high price of ImagePrint,
and some users feeling that the look on B&W prints was kind of mechanical, made
for far less enthusiasm about it. I haven't heard anyone recommending it as a
B&W solution for quite some time now, though there are still plenty of people
who own it who are using it for that.
