The MIS system uses a Windows only software program to reset the chip on
the 1280. What MIS doesn't tell you is that
you can run Windows on the Mac using VirtualPC http://www.connectix.com/
. I have done it.
IMHO a superior CFS is made by CIS http://www.nomorecarts.com/ .
CIS supplies a replacement microchip that shows the printer as 100% full
no matter how much ink is used.

Certainly. Get the Niagara CIS system from http://www.mediastreet.com
This is the same system as built by Dave at nomorecarts.com He doesn't
sell direct anymore. The CIS comes with a chip that always shows the
cartridges as full. I believe the 1280 is usb or firewire. I'm using USB.

Andy............

Which one are you asking about, MIS or CIS?
A Macintosh G3/4 using VirtualPC will run any, with the exception of
some games, Windows application.
VirtualPC mimics Intel hardware so Windows thinks it is on a Intel
machine. On my Macintosh 9600/G3
I have printed from Windows through the Mac USB port, using a USB to
Parallel port adapter, to the parallel
connection on Epson printers. I did it just to see if it can be done.
I'm using the CIS unit from nomorecarts, works great.

Hi William:

What I meant to ask was whether or not one could use Virtual PC "w/ DOS, as
that's the program needed" and send the instructions to the MIS CFS to reset
the chip. I guess you would need the USB to Parallel adapter, but for about
$25 you could probably pick up a used Virtual PC DOS version on Ebay and for
$20 a USB to Parallel cord to enable the use of the DOS software.

All the best!

> Andy.........

You could do that. Before buying a copy of VirtualPC I would check out
the Connectix site for what version will run on your
Mac. The newer versions will need at least a G4/G3 to run, will not
work with G4/G4 card in an older Mac. DOS does run on all versions.
A new copy with DOS goes for $99 from Connectix.
Why do you want to go to the trouble of using the MIS system when CIS's
doesn't use software to reset it? CIS has their own
chip that shows 100% at all times. Have you checked it out?
By the time you buy VPC, the adapter, MIS software and the CFS unit, the
cost will be more then if you bought the CIS unit
from WWW.nomorecarts.com

Hi William:

I'm most interested in knowing all the options since I do a lot of consulting
and the more options I have, the better I can make the technology work for me
and my clients.

I really like the NMC's system. I have 3 of them! I also happen to have a
USB to Parallel cable so testing the system would be quite easy and I can
probably pick up an older version of Virtual PC "DOS"for $25 or so. I think
this is very good info for others and thanks for the idea.

All the best!

Andy...................

Glad I could be of some help.
I do not know if you are aware of this but Lumijet just came out with
their own CFS system - LumiFlo - for the 1270/80. I just found out
yesterday when I was I my local camera shoppe. It was listed for
$339.95 including inks and profiles. Lumijet's site has the price at
$389.00.
It uses the microchip like NMC.

cheers,
William

And it looks exactly like the NMC system, only $100 more expensive.
