Printer for 11x14

Printer for 11x14

2007-01-08 by scottkathe1

Hi,

I have been using an Epson C86 with the MIS EZ inksets and have been
quite happy with the results. I'd like to step up to a printer that
will allow me to make 11x14s (or slightly larger). From what I
understand the prime candidates for an inexpensive way to do this
would be an older used Epson 2000P or a new 1280. Any thougths on how
to do this inexpensively (read no 2400), with the least amout of clogging
and good quality would be greatly appreciated.

Scott,
I found a used 1280 on craigslist for $30. Kind of hard to beat at
that price. It's been ok. With refillable cartridges, and bulk ink,
it's been a pretty economical way for me to start out. One thing that
I am greatly annoyed by is it's ability to print on gloss on
semi-gloss. With my particular printer, I get "pizza wheel" marks
that I hate. I know there are "fixes" for this, but I don't feel like
taking the printer apart. It does a nice job on matte paper though.
My particular printer takes a little bit of work to get going so I
usually save printing until I have a few prints to make. Usually 5-10
minutes or so of running the print checks and head cleanings and some
purge patterns.

If you are not in a hurry, you can watch the Epson site. Occasionally they have refurbished ones. That is where I got mine after I wore the last one out. Other than that, keep checking EBay. They frequently are listed there after people upgrade to the newer Epson printers, and with another new one out . . .

I recently bought the Canon Pro9000 wide format
I found it to print better than my Epson R1800

only 500 for it....... for beautiful prints on pretty much all papers.......
     well worth the investment............

"I found it to print better than my Epson R1800"

What does "better" mean? "Better" in what way - smoother, more detail,
better blacks, better gradations? Something else? What papers are you using?
