Problem using Entrada (190gsm) with an R220

Problem using Entrada (190gsm) with an R220

2007-04-17 by Eric Miner

Hello,

I've been using Moab's Kayenta (205gsm) on my Epson R200 for BO
printg. I recently got some Entrada natural so that I could put my
images on a cotton based paper.

When I began my printing run I ran into a problem. The printer either:

1. gives me a "paper jam" error message or
2. gives me a "media not loaded correctly" error message or
3. simply passes the paper through without printing (this happens
less often than #1 or #2)

For a few sheets I have been able to use a fine nail file to 'bevel'
the feeding edge, but that only works about half the time.

Has anyone see this issue and what can I do to use this paper? Any
and all advice greatfully accepted.

Thanks in advance

Eric

I have 2 R220s and neither has presented any problems like you mentioned with papers
under 330 or so gsm. I've not used the Entrada but I'm wondering if too thin may be a
problem. Epson's EEM which feels like a very low 200s gsm paper comes packaged with a
very heavy "backing" sheet which is advised to put behind single sheets when feeding single
sheets. If you have some very heavy paper you might try putting a sheet under the fed paper.

Hello Eric,

I've been using the R220 with Premier Matte C2S 210gms paper.

This paper has a natural curl. If I run the paper with the inside curl
its engages freely but I get ink smears at the other end.

If I run the paper with the outside curl, it refuses to engage and I
have the same problems you've described. So I use a carton backing
curled in the opposite direction and this exerts an even pressure at
the base of the inkjet paper which engages more freely.

Andre

Here's a wacky trick that often works for me (I also use Entrada 190
gsm in a E200): form feed an 8-1/2x11 sheet of fine sandpaper through
the printer a few times. This puts enough of a tooth on the rollers
that feeding works better.
