Folks, many of us are curious about the new Hahnemuhle Photo Rag. Steadman and I had the opportunity to try some test samples and were excited by the overall print quality. Both of us had the impression, that the color of the paper is very alike the color of German Etching/Orwell. Yesterday I got my first package of the final paper and was surprised to find it much whiter than the test samples. It is nearly but not quite as white as Epson AM, just a bit wamer (EAM seems to have a bluish tint in direct comparison). I called the Hahnemuhle guys and they told me that they dicided to make the paper whiter in the last minute because of many customer inquiries (so did I). That means, the paper hasn´t been shipped to the US yet, but shipping will beginn soon. I would recommend to order in advance, because in their old fashioned stile of paper production they can only make relatively small quantities if you compare it to the big factories. So resellers maybe sold out quickly. Bernd, who is not a H. employee, but happens to speak German ; - )

Bernd, Well this paper sounds like it could be the real deal for me. As I'm not into the super cool papers, I'm not in love with Legions Photo Matte, which aside form it's archival advantage, shows me no visible advantage over EAM (slightly different, not better). What is the weight/texture like of the HPR? It's not as smooth as EAM and LPM is it? Is it's weight more like a William Turner, or German Etching? Please don't tell me it's like the Conetech Matte (I forget the H. name for it), thin with the back side feeling completely different than the coated front.... What I'd like is just a non parchment version of Torchon. Is that so difficult. ;-) It's bright enough, it's stiff enough, it's blacks are good - If Hahnemuhle would just take it out of the waffle iron.... :*[ Todd

Speaking of Torchon I have noticed a huge amount of warm up in the prints. It seems to take several days if not weeks and the rather neutral prints I made on it 2 weeks ago are now among the warmest PiezoBW prints I have made. Since I prefer a more neutral tone, Torchon is rapidly sliding off my favorite's list. Anyone else seeing this? Martin --- In DigitalBlackandWhiteThePrint@y..., "Michael J. I have been using HPR but I was hoping for better results than I am getting, either B&W's or Color. I print with an Epson 2200 and use Win XP. I have been using the Matte Black Ink when printing B&W's and am using the Photorealistic Mode settings as described at Luminous Landscape. I am curious to know what settings have worked well for others when using HPR. Peter [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]

I am new to QTR and have been playing with different papers. I am OS 10.26 using epson 2200. I have downloaded soft proofing files which include "HPR" profiles. When I go to QTR settings there are only premier fine art ...enh matte...and oriental. I have been using epson enhanced matte setting ...am I doing this right? Is there a "HPR" paper settings out there that I should be using?? How do I add different papers to the QTR settings pull down? Eric
