Is my 2200 dead?

Is my 2200 dead?

2007-10-25 by Un Globe Trotteur

Ok, I was given a 2200. 6 months ago, the printer had a clooged head. He tried to unclog it with some unclog liquid from the internet. After a few purges, nothing printed anymore.
The printer stayed with no cartridges in a box for 6 months.
Now i got it. Last night i used some blue windex and tonight i tried a nozzle check. The printer acts like it's printing but the page is blank. I did a purge and same thing. I just put back some windex to sit overnight.
Anything else i can do or there's no hope.
Thanks.

And I assume you put new ones in it? Try Simple Green instead of Windex.

Try soaking the parking pad in windex as well to work on the clog from the outside. I've also
filled carts with windex and printed Paul Roark's "Purge Six" image when I had a stubborn bad
nozzle check. I'd run a half dozen sheets of plain paper through at Matte paper settings to
get things good and wet then let it sit overnight on a soaked parking pad. Repeat the next
day and so on. Make sure it is the old style windex with ammonia.

Use Parsons or similar amonia. Don't dilute it. If you have empty carts refill them with this and you have instant cleaning carts. Run a few cleaning cycles with them then soak the parking pads. Turn the printer off overnight. IF no luck do it again and leave untill before you go to bed and try it. If still no luck keep repeating 12 hour cycles.

Is the recommendation of Simple Green based on actual experience? SG is a
powerful cleaner compared to Windex which is basically water, ammonia and
bit of detergent. I know that if I get SG on my hands, it takes quite a bit
of rinsing to get it off. How does that play out in a print head?
Just curious. And I wonder how alcohol+Windex would work.

That's great. I'm sure it is a more effective cleaner than Windex.

Re: [Digital BW] Is my 2200 dead?

2007-10-26 by Un Globe Trotteur

I may want to try the simple green. I'm just wondering if the problem is not somewhere else. I injected some windex 2 nights in a row and rubbed the head on top of a paper towel with windex. I'm still not getting a drop of ink on the paper. If i know that clogs are the problem, i could invest in some empty cartridges and run windex cycle.
The things is that 6 months ago, one head clogged. After running multiple purge cycles, the user said that none of the head printed again, so he put the printer in storage with no cartridges inside.
Could it be an electronic problem?
The printer is acting like it's printing.
I'm not a guru in epson printer. Should i continue the windex or simple green method a while longer?
Thanks for any advice.

Injecting cleaning fluid into the head can sometimes ruin it. A little too much pressure and the head is kaput.

Could also be air trapped in the bottom of the cartridge. Especially if the cartridges had
been opened previously and then stored upside down or on their sides. When setting up
brand new empty cartridges we prime them with a plastic syringe-like device to pull the
air and a little pure ink out of the bottom of the cartridge. Standard routine is to fill an
empty cartridge. Then stick a "bottom fill adaptor" on to the syringe, insert it into the
bottom port of the cartridge and draw out a bit of ink. "priming the pump" if you will. MIS
sells this sort of thing but now you are getting more and more involved in it to what end?
If there is/was no air at the bottom port then the normal installation routine should have
purged the air.

After re-reading your post, heavy handed multi purge/cleaning cycles create a lot of heat
and could have damaged the heads permanently.

Sorry but it's a tough call with any unit like that. Do you invest time and money and maybe
learn something and maybe get a functioning printer or does it become a life lesson.

I recently modified my aging 2100 to use an external waste tank. After
I put the thing back together absolutely nothing would print. Turns
out the vacuum pump tube had been disconnected and this produced the
exact symptoms you describe - Completely blank nozzle checks.

You have to unscrew several components of the printer to get to the
vacuum pump, takes about half an hour with a screwdriver and a service
manual.

A clogged vacuum pump tube can produce the same symptoms. While the
printer is open you might want to take out both of the tubes from the
vacuum pump assembly and make sure they're clean.

My 3 Epsons started getting clogs after months of happy printing with
MIS inks. Sometimes it happens in the middle of printout. I blame MIS
inks in clogs, I have both old base and new base UT7 inks -- both
clogs 2200, r200 and r220. I tried all easy tricks first: windex on
the pad, etc. Then I replaced printhead on 2200 several months ago,
but now getting clogs again. I found that I could clean it for a
while only when I extract the head and pump windex and isopropanol
through it. It is not that messy as doing it when head is in printer.
After that treatment my printer prints again for a while. I am very
good now in assembling/disassembling those suckers. I think that
using this method it is possible to open any clog.

Now my office looks like intensive care room for Epsons, one or two
printers are getting IV most of the time.

Frankly speaking, if I would be sure I could produce prints like I am
doing with UT7, but on HP or Canon printer, I would accept losses and
all Epson and MIS stuff will go to the dumpster. Printing is not my
job, and looking back on all expenses and efforts with MIS inks, QTR
spectro and Epsons, I see that it is almost as expensive as use of
OEM inks.

Good luck with your printer, send me e-mail if you need instructions
how to pump cleaner through the head.

Sergei

I found that periodic cleaning of the wiper blade greatly reduced clogging and
other aberrant behavior when using UT2 inks in my Epson 1280. See
message 85464 for a brief description of the cleaning procedure.
