where and how to find the QTR

where and how to find the QTR

2007-10-27 by Frank Jay

hello,
I downloaded the QTR into my Program files with a short cut on my desktop.
I read the directions of how to begin printing twice.
I click the shortcut and all the files in the QTR show up but nothing like the screens that are shown in the User Manual, or Paul Roark's articles.
Can someone help me with this please. I am hoping to print some test prints on the papers I bought from MIS with the R1800. I am using Windows XP.
  thanks for any help.
  Frank

Frank, you may need to be a bit more specific here. What files in QTR
show up - do you mean the curves show up? If so, what specifically is
the problem you are encountering and I and the good folk here will try
to talk you through it.

Allistair.
I downloaded the QTR. It went to my Program files so I put a
shortcut on my desktop. If I Click the shortcut it opens what I see.
is this:
Folder called bin
Folder called icc
Folder called Profiles
Folder called PPD
Folder called Eye One
Folder call QuadTone
a tiff called 21st step
tiff called 100 step wedge.
QTR license
Word doc called GNU license
an Intall document
Quadtone users guide.

NO RIP appears as appears in any of the info sheets by Paul Roark,
or the fellow who wrote the User's Manual for the QTR. NO driver
type screen for the QTR, only what is in the folder.
I cannot get more specific than this.
I do hope someone can help me with this. I am going no where fast.
thanks again
Frank
In other words...I click the shortcut and ALL the files in the
shortcut show up EXCEPT the tool (QTR) itself. It is a screen like
any other folder that has files, tiffs , jpegs, text docs. etc in
it. In other words..it is NOT an application just a folder with
information in it...where can I find the app. for QTR

Yes, What Phil said is correct. The file you need is QTRgui.exe and
it is in the bin directory. THe shortcut you are clicking on is just
taking you to the QTR directory.

You could also look in the Start Menu in the bottom left corner of XP
and see if an icon has been installed on the start menu.

The install should have put a shortcut in your start menu. If you want to
create a shortcut your self, you need to make the shortcut to the exe file
in the /bin folder.

1) The author wrote it out of his own goodwill, so we should be
thanking him, not critiscising him.

2) After installation, the method to start the program is like 99% of
other Windoze based sw, so I guess he assumed a higher level of
competence on behalf of the users.

It is called a constructive query steve...and please keep your left
handed insults private with me and deal man to man and not demean
youself in public with your overt snippiness. And btw, I thanked the
author in another email that you were NOT privy to...

MIS was quick to help.

2007-10-31 by Frank Jay

I would like to give credit where credit is due and state that MIS got to me in less than a day and graciously offered to replace the cartridges and explained what may have happened. . Now THAT is customer service.
