Inkjet Topics and Nomenclature

Inkjet Topics and Nomenclature

2001-08-18 by mwesley250@earthlink.net

One thing I have notice with the inkjet threads is that with the
large number of ink sets, software, etc. we are discussing it is
critical to include in each post exactly which you are using. There
have been some posts that included none of this info which makes it
difficult to follow and will make the archive difficult to search.

Also in regards to the abbreviations for the pigmented inks the
following has been suggested. If we all use the same shorthand there
will be less confusion. Including this in the subject line might be
of assistance also.

PiezoBW ink set - PZO
MIS Original Quad - MOQ
MIS Full Spectrum Quad - MFS
MIS Variable Mix Quad - MVM

For MIS posts it is also critical to include the workflow you are
using. Paul Roark, John Woolf, etc.

Thanks your help.

I would also appreciate it VERY much if someone could put a page up
somewhere summarizing in two lines or so each of the different technologies
and workflows. I use the piezo system and am interested in other inksets and
workflows but am having a hard time getting up to speed with it.

If someone would write an article on the state-of-the-art I know a very
prominent and high traffic website which would almost certainly include it
as a feature.

dissenting view re. abbreviations

2001-08-18 by Richard Wolfson

With all due respect, Martin, I dissent. These abbreviations would drive
me batty.

I'd very much prefer people just type these terms more or less in full,
at least the first time they're used in any particular posting. I've
already had this problem with abbreviations in several otherwise
illuminating paper discussions, and evidently others have too.

Ease in reading trumps ease in typing any day, please. Thanks!

Well, we also have the the Spectratones, the Lysonic quad inks, the Lysonic Small Gamuts, and if anyone wants to

All of these, though possibly not as popular, are very viable products.

For PiezoBW, why wouldn't you use PBW as the abbreviation? There is a
Piezo Color set, and for those of us who live at (or for ;-) ) other
discussion threads, we tend to think also of P-(something for color).

Bill,

Good point. How about PZBW and PZC?

Anything is fine so long as we all know what is being referred to. It
will probably evolve on it's own in any case.
