Auto Test Printing during a long shutdown

Auto Test Printing during a long shutdown

2007-12-04 by David H. Miller

I'm using QTR with Jon Cone's piezography, a combination working well
for me.

But I'm going to be on a long trip in March/April and don't want my
inks to dry out. Jon suggested there was a program to automatic print
a test sheet everyday to keep the heads unclogged, a Windows XP based
routine which is the basis of my computer.

Does anyone know about this and/or use it? It would be very useful as
I could load in a lot of plain paper sheets and just let it run.

Other suggestions for a long shutdown would be welcomed.

Dave,

I have no direct experience with Jon Cone's inks in a long-shutdown
situation, but I can say that with Epson pigment inks in Epson
printers, it is worth my time to keep the workroom humidity adequate.
That's not easy where I live! I strive for a print-room humidity of
50% year-around. It keeps the inks and paper stocks happy.

I also make a point to not position a printer where sunlight through
a window strikes the machine causing it to heat up and dry out.

Enjoy your trip!

I have posted AutoNozzleCheck.zip in the Epson Wide Format group (file
area) that will trigger the Auto Nozzle Check function in Epson 4800.

I have no idea if auto nozzle check works with other inks or if the
file works with other Epson printers..

I basically created a schedule in Windows that runs every 2 days when
I am off for a long time, etc.

I read somewhere (either here or the Epson group) that wrapping the
(desktop) printer in a big plastic bag was a good idea, as humidity in
the bag should be more or less constant. You can also include a bowl
with a wet sponge inside the bag, as long as it does not come in
contact with the printer.

I've not yet tried this for a long period, but I can't seem that it
would do any harm to the printer, and might work.

Hi Michael,

After extracting the files, in what folder do I install them?

I don't understand how your program work. Can you please be more
specific?

Thanks,
Scott

There is no installer (sorry). You can extract the files in any
directory such that the file won't be removed later on..

Then start Windows scheduler and make a schedule.

The program runs as:
RawPrint.exe "printer name" AutoNozzleCheck4800.bin

(You can try type that into a Command Line window and see if it works.)

My command is:
RawPrint.exe "EPSON Stylus Pro 4800" AutoNozzleCheck4800.bin
