and I find it confusing. http://www.epson.com/cgi-bin/Store/support/SupportIndex.jsp? BV_UseBVCookie=yes&expansion=1000000 Is the R280 a current model? Also, will the R280's driver allow me to print "Black Only" using MIS Eboni carbon ink?

Actually, the current models are at this link on the Epson Store: http://www.epson.com/cgi-bin/Store/ProductCategory.jsp?BV_UseBVCookie=yes&oid=- 8165 Anyway, I really enjoyed my B&W images using the BO method and the 1280. Would the R280 give me the same (or better) results I got with the 1280 and MIS Eboni carbon cartridge?

I doubt the 280 driver has a black only printing mode. QTR is "QuadToneRip" - see http://www.quadtonerip.com/html/QTRoverview.html A "rip" (raster image processor") is a third part printing utility that gives us control of the printer where Epson does not. Roy Harrington's QTR is the best value in B&W rips. For my recent inksets and workflows, QTR is used a lot to get the most out of the printers. I'll take a look at the QTR link, but in the meantime, how does one do BO printing these days when the newer machines and drivers don't allow for the option? --- In DigitalBlackandWhiteThePrint@yahoogroups.com, "Paul Roark" <paul.roark@...> wrote: > > I doubt the 280 driver has a black only printing mode. Hi, How is the R280's reliability and ink clogging? Thanks Mike J.

The QTR requirements page: http://www.quadtonerip.com/html/QTRrequire.html Does not list the 260 or 280. Is it similar enough to the 1280? Thanks Mike J.

Again, the answer would be QTR. Tyler --- In DigitalBlackandWhiteThePrint@yahoogroups.com, "Kevin" <vinke@...> wrote:

Mike -- I don't know the answer to your question, but the 260/280 is very different from the 1280. Probably closer to the 220, if that's listed, or maybe the 1400. Others here will know better. Mitch Mike Johnston wrote:

this is looking more like a path i don't want to go down. if QTR (RIP) is needed for the cheapo R280 to do black only printing, wouldn't it be wise to continue with the R2400...won't the 2400 do the same BO printing with the "QTR"? --- In DigitalBlackandWhiteThePrint@yahoogroups.com, "Tyler Boley" <tyler@...> wrote: > > Again, the answer would be QTR. > Tyler > > --- In DigitalBlackandWhiteThePrint@yahoogroups.com, "Kevin" <vinke@> wrote: > > > > I'll take a look at the QTR link, but in the meantime, how does one do > > BO printing these days when the newer machines and drivers don't allow

>...won't the 2400 do the same BO printing with the "QTR"? No, the 2400 has a larger drop size. But give it a try and see if you like the results. QTR allows users to try before they buy (for all of $50). If you have OEM MK, the prints will be warm, whereas Eboni is neutral. However, with either ink you'll be able to see if the print is smooth enough for you. Paul www.PaulRoark.com
