Roller Marks using R1800

Roller Marks using R1800

2008-02-05 by colingruk

Hi,

I have printed without problems before but am now getting a roller
mark on A4 paper which shows particularly in grey skies. Viewing the
top of the sheet, which comes out of the printer first, the mark
starts about 30mm from the top (but maybe less because of the white
border, and 35mm from the left. The mark is 15mm wide and about 42mm
long. It looks as though the roller is sticking.

I am using Innova Satin paper (aka semi matt?)with the matt paper
setting (because I got a higher Dmax). I am printing with the PKN
inks and glop.

I have fed a sheet of paper with windolene on it to clean the rollers
and have changed the setting in the print drive to 'thick' but to no
avail. I have put a sheet of 300gsm card through but could not
discern the effect.

I have access problems to the rear of the machine and have
difficulties using the rear auto and manual slots. The paper doesn't
get taken up and the machine flashes the paper warning red light at
me. How do I get the paper to take up with the rear slots to try to
avoid the roller?

Any suggestions please?

Colin

Colin,

I use the rear manual sheet feeder for the FB papers. You have to
carefully align the paper on the right edge and put a slight amount
of downward pressure on the top of the paper to get it to feed properly.

Thank you for your advice,

Using the Epson print driver, I have been able to print through the
Single Sheet Guide at the rear of the printer provided that I set the
paper type to Velvet Fine Art Paper. (If you wish to use that slot a
message appears stating that you must use the Velvet Fine Art Paper
setting.)

However, using the rear manual feed slot has not been successful.
Again with the Velvet fine Art Paper setting, but not otherwise, the
paper feeds but then a paper jam error message appears. Anyway, this
paper feed slot is blocked so that it will not accept larger than A4
paper, not even US letter size. This maybe one functional difference
with the European model as against the US model. There may be others.

I then tried using the Single Sheet Guide with PKN inks and QTR, but
this doesn't work, presumably because there is no setting for Velvet
Fine Art Paper.

Could you please tell me what settings are possible on your R1800
because it might be worth my trying to use the US driver.

Thanks,

Colin

Coin,

The feed slot I was referring to is on the top of the printer in the
rear and yes it is the one designed for heavy fine art papers. I
don't use the Epson driver with the 1800 - only QTR and with the
latter you must specify the "manual roll" feed option in the final
print dialog if you use this slot.

Carl,

Thank you very much, this is now working for me and I have printed
without the roller marks showing.

Best regards,

Colin
