R1800 Eboni 6

R1800 Eboni 6

2009-04-07 by jag24x

I just bought myself a partial working R1800. One of the heads is completely clogged. Though I intend on still using it for Eboni 6 inks.
The cartridges in the printers
Yellow - ok
Magenta - ok
Cyan - ok
MK - ok
PK - BUSTED
R - ok
B - ok
Glop - ok

I then got a set of MIS Eboni 6 inks from someone from ebay, on the description: "These inks are all different shades of black- you have one that replaces MAGENTA, one for LIGHT MAGENTA, another replaces YELLOW- we have one each for CYAN and LIGHT CYAN and then for plain old black you have the brilliant EBONI."

If i'm using QTR to print how would I go about setting up the Eboni 6 inks to work here? Would it really matter if I just added each Eboni ink to whatever cartridge color I wanted? From there I would make my own curve? Or can I follow a profile already saved in QTR?

Any help would be glady appreciated.
Thanks
Jag

Stick a cleaning cart with a fair amount of windex in it in that spot. It might chew its way through the clog.

See page 3 of the above PDF. With QTR it really does not matter where you put things, but if you follow the PDF you'll be able to use both QTR and the Epson driver to print. It is handy to be able to use the Epson driver, with or without ICCs.

You might want to put cleaning fluid in the un-used glop position also. You can use the C6 base
(see http://www.paulroark.com/BW-Info/Ink-Mixing.pdf). For the clogged position, use half the glycerol so the viscosity is lower -- more likely to get into the clog.

I recommend you get spongeless carts from
http://www.inkjetcarts.us/

The MIS "spongeless" carts for the 1800 that I had were not spongeless, and the sponges reacted with the Eboni-6 base.

Good luck with the setup.

Hi Paul,
Thanks for the reply. The thing is the PK which is completely clogged or not working at all, is NOT outputting any lines whatsoever when I do the "nozzle check" pattern. As all the lines for the other cartridges are fine. So I don't think it is a clog but a busted nozzle perhaps? I first thought there wasn't enough pressure with the other carts as some were low but I replaced them all with fresh new ones and still had the same problem.
I also got one of those cartridges where you add a syringe to inject through some cleaning fluid through the PK nozzle. It outputed the cleaning fluid alright but nothing came up in the "nozzle check". Actually coming to think of it, I hope the "nozzle check" prints the way the order the cartridges are on the printer? If not it could be the MK which is busted???! :)
Either way I'll keep at it.

I'm a bit confused with page 3 and perhaps i'm missing something?
I have 6 Eboni inks, and I presume I put the inks in this order:

1.Yellow catridge in R1800 <- Eb6 Y
2.RED catridge in R1800 <- EB6-LM
3.Magenta catridge in R1800 <- EB6-LC
4.Blue catridge in R1800 <- EB6-M
5.CYAN catridge in R1800 <- EB6- C

Umm where is the 6th cartridge suppose to go?
Perhaps the MK cartidge goes the Eboni K ?
If this is the case I really dont need to worry about the PK busted one or the glop positions and I go ahead with the Epson or QTR driver? Am I correct in saying this?

Why would I need to put cleaning fluid in the un-used glop position? I'm not going to use it for printing...or am I ? :)

Ok I will try this as well.

Will look into this.

Thanks very much for your time Paul.

Yes.

Yes, put the Eboni MK in the 1800 K position. I see I forgot to be specific about that in the PDF. I was assuming most people doing this would have the 3-MK setup installed.

Correct. With the Eboni-6 1800 arrangement 6 positions is all you need.

> I go ahead with the Epson or QTR driver?

Yes, the reason for the ink order is to allow the Epson driver to work, including with the ICCs that are in the Zip file. They include a curve that partitions the inks, as well as, of course, "color managing" the workflow so that the print relative densities will match a calibrated monitor.

You need something there, and as long as that position is working I'd keep it working with a clear fluid. Don't run it dry, and the C6 clear fluid or the like is less likely to clog than a pigment or MIS glop.

Good luck with the setup.
