I just connected an old tx7 module to my vfx and all the keys are on the high end of the scale. How do i set my vfx to play the same notes as the module.

In the performance section of the vfx 1. press the midi button and change one of the three sounds from local to midi 2. double click the midi button so that it is "active" 3. press the midi button repeatedly until you come to program 4. change the program to get the tx sound that you want 5. choose the vfx sound you want as part of the preset and be sure that it stays set to local. With both sounds active 6. press the transpose button and experiment with the tx/midi sound by changing the octave to match the octave of the vfx sound 7. save the settings as a preset or as a sequence. Hope that helps. Frank Fortunato

If anyone has one of these modules, let me know how to set the module to play same keysrhw same as the vfx, im not very familiar with the tx7 but everything seems to be working correctly on the vfx except the transpose, please help if you can. thanks

I have a tx7 and it appears that there's no global transpose; only a fine tuning (detune). In fact DX7 transpose is 'per program' instead of global...so...if you want to attack it on the yamaha end there are two ways. 1) Borrow a dx7, load your programs onto it and transpose each one to taste; then dump them back to the tx. 2) Download/acquire a dx7 software editor and swap the progs back and forth with the computer instead of a dx. Either way the transpose function is expressed sorta backwards from most other synths....Middle C = ? Good luck! Mike Nelson

I'm sorry if I haven't been paying attention, but do we all know that you can do this from the VFX end of things by making sure on the MIDI CONTROL page, you set XPOS=BOTH or XPOS=SEND, then changing the transpose setting in the performance section? e.g. To have a preset that layers a VFX sound with a tx7 sound: Select the VFX sound you want to layer with. DoubleClick another sound to make a layer. (flashing underline) Set MIDI status on the first one you selected to LOCAL. Set MIDI status on the second to MIDI Set CHAN and PROG on the second voice to what you want to send to the tx7. Change the transpose for the 2nd to what you need for the tx7 to match the VFX. I do this all the time, except the module is a JV-1080 not a tx7. [ My JV-1080 is usually set to receive on MIDI channel 1, and I have my VFX set with the BASE channel = 15, SEND=TRACK (not BASE) -- so when you select a vfx sound which by default gets MIDI STAT of BOTH, it sends on channel 15, which the JV ignores. This seemed easier at the time than getting the JV to respond to some other channel, yet I don't get sounds out of the JV unless I specifically want them. ] --> Steve

Don't bother reprogramming the TX7 as that is more work. Just have the VFX access the TX on a separate channel that you set up as midi, not local and not both. Then go and change the octave on the VFX where you have the TX sound and the TX will play the correct octave to match the VFX layer.
