80's anyone?

80's anyone?

2005-05-24 by Michael Lesko

Hi everyone,

Anyone here program any 80's covers? Just curious. I've set up a bunch of
them and was
hoping I could find someone to trade with (assuming my aren't terrible
because I'm still learning
the SD-1) Seriously mine aren't bad. I don't have the talent to compose my
own music so
I'm relegated to reliving the past. Very much like "Groundhog Day" if
anyone remembers that
movie. Well if anyone is interested in 80's, let me know, if not my
apologies for starting such
a dumb string. Thanks.

Go ahead. The cartridges are fully compatible. All VFX sounds are
available on the SD1. The other way round, when you use sounds on the
SD1 which are not on the VFX and store the programs on the cartridge
you naturally won't hear the SD1-only sounds on the VFX. They'll be
replaced by something else - no damage...

I have an emergency question. A SD1 has come up for sale in my
area. I would like to know if I can plug my VFX sound cartridges
into the SD1 and play my old VFX programs with it. Just plug in
and go, or would I blow the thing up?

The SD1 has no operation manual, is there on online that anyone knows
of?
                               Thanks, John.

Hey guys,

Here's what I've done that is "all done" on the SD-1. I have quite a few
more but many of the synth parts are played on my DX7II and
through a Proteus FX unit. You can see the rest of my set list here
http://www.80sband.net As I said before I'm not a pro at sequencing but
I think I did a great job with these. People in Pittsburgh sure don't have
a problem dancing to them. Let me know if anything looks interesting

Hello Michael, my name is Ricci from California, brnad new to this
group and I couldn't help but to notice your question. The 80's are
probably my favorite time for music and yes I have a pretty extensive
library of SD-1 created covers. The quality of my sequences are
close to picture perfect to the original tunes..(yea, Im a bad-
ass..haha!), just kidding. No offense or anything but I wouldnt mind
hearing a sample of your work and vise verse but to tell you the
truth I usually charge for any sequences I have produced usually
because the people that buy the songs are using them in a live band
situation at their gigs. I think thats only fair..But on the other
hand I have no problem letting you hear what ive got you hearing your
sequencing talents as well. Let me know how we do this..thank you

Ricci....

;

While you are waiting for Michael to reply........

Sounds like you are a pretty talented synthesist there Ricci from California. I am into a different musical era myself. Anyway, I was curious based on my own experiences with licensing - for the cover material you are selling and distributing to other bands do you secure a Mechanical License or a Digital License? Sometimes that licensing stuff can get a little confusing based on how the covered songs are being used and distributed as you know.

And by the way, welcome to the Ensoniq Group,

SwompRabbit

PS.........With regard to your question about fuses, wrapping fuses with foil is a technique sometimes used as way of circumventing the purpose of the fuses. Either someone was too lazy to go out and purchase new fuses to replace the blown ones or there is something possibly wrong with the equipment causing the fuses to blow. A fuse wrapped in foil changes a circuit from a "fuse protected" circuit to a "hard-wired" circuit. I would strongly suggest replacing the foil-wrapped fuses with the proper size and type fuses. Disregarding the purpose and function of the fuses could lead to serious equipment damage or something worse.

Morning Ricci,
You wrote the following in your email addressed to Michael:
"The 80's are probably my favorite time for music and yes I have a pretty extensive

Your statements above are where I got my information. That led me to ask the licensing question. Guess I misunderstood what you were saying huh?
Have a great day.....

Oh Boy!! I wonder if anyone from the Federal Bureau of Investigations belongs to this list. They just love looking into that copyright infringement stuff. And you know what? Each one of us have an Internet Protocol Address that leads directly to our physical address. The FBI could subpoena any internet service providers database and show up at our front door at anytime for this sort of thing. It seems that Ricci is trying to backtrack on his sales pitch to charge for published music in view of this legitimate inquiry as to licensing. I am interested in seeing what further develops here.
Best regards to you all,

RE: [Ensoniq-VFX-SD] Re: 80's anyone?

2005-08-15 by EXT-Schurr, Larry A

Oh BOY!!
The FBI?!?
Somebody watches WAAAAY too much TV!

Maybe Ephrem Zimbalist Jr. will clap us all in irons, or maybe we'll
hear a "book-em, Danno" through the din of rifle bolts slamming home.

As seen on TV!
Gee... I wanna live in YOUR world.

I'll buy whatever sequencez ya got just for the fun of it! :-)

side note: lemme tell you a story about the level of vigilance of your
FBI you hold in fantasy. boring story follows.....

As partners in a 707 simulator, we had been trying to peddle this thing
on the international market. Shortly after 9/11, my partner called and
said "hey, didn't we have some strange correspondence with the Syrians a
few months back?". Sure enough, we did.

Seems in January prior to 9/11, the Syrians contacted us looking for a
big iron (shoptalk) simulator like the 707 and was wondering how long it
would take to transport, calibrate, and become operational there in
Damascus. Price seemed to be no object. We thought this odd cuz they
don't have a large fleet of 707's and didn't seem to be adding any 747's
(upgrade training path) so why all the interest?!?? But hey, it's their
money. One thing led to another and of course, the deal went no where
cuz we made the mistake of asking too many questions. How dare we
question them? (almost verbatim...)

Some weeks after 9/11, I personally contacted the regional FBI office
and related the (much more involved version of our) story. Wanna guess?
Ho-hum. yes, that's very nice. Hey, we got names, faxes,
correspondence, emails, etc.! Nope... not interested. You can send it
in if it'll make ya feel better....

So yes, I'm SURE the FBI is very carefully scrutinizing every
transaction on every list, oh yes.. very concerned all right -- while
they're not sitting around scratching their @sses, anyway.

hey swomprabbit,
In regard to this music licensing and mechanical stuff that you are
talking about. I dont't know where you are getting your infomation
but I dont sell cover tunes to anybody nor am I in any business that
does that sort of thing..Where did you come up with this idea?..

curious based on my own experiences with licensing - for the cover
material you are selling and distributing to other bands do you
secure a Mechanical License or a Digital License? Sometimes that
licensing stuff can get a little confusing based on how the covered
songs are being used and distributed as you know.

with foil is a technique sometimes used as way of circumventing the
purpose of the fuses. Either someone was too lazy to go out and
purchase new fuses to replace the blown ones or there is something
possibly wrong with the equipment causing the fuses to blow. A fuse
wrapped in foil changes a circuit from a "fuse protected" circuit to
a "hard-wired" circuit. I would strongly suggest replacing the foil-
wrapped fuses with the proper size and type fuses. Disregarding the
purpose and function of the fuses could lead to serious equipment
damage or something worse.

It would seem to me that you are ASSUMING that this person is selling sequences created by OTHER companies\u2026 which would be a copyright infringement but you over look that possibility that he is sequencing his own songs and seeking out songs sequenced by other individuals.
