SD1 Power up.

SD1 Power up.

2005-05-19 by tjiyf

I have a recurring problem on my Sd1, about 30% of the time when i
power up the keyboard does not get to the calibation notice so the
keyboard is not usable. I continue to switch the power on and off
somtimes up to 100 times before the keyboard will initilize.
I then have to releod the O.S system and sounds etc.
Is there any thing i can do to prevent this.

Tony.

Sounds like you may have an SD1 with the keyboard connection problem.
Turn it off then try pressing the keyboard down in the middle around
middle C. Then turn The SD1 back on and see if it makes a differance.
it works for some people, if it does then you need to hard wire the
two
bords together. DO NOT keep on turning it on and off as this WILL
KILL
the diodes.

Hi Tony. I had a problem, like the one you describe, on a VFX. The VFX has two circuit boards
which control each half of the keyboard. They are connected together via a pair of headers. If
the header pins become dirty, the keyboard will not function, and thus, the VFX would simply
ignore the keyboard altogether. The simple solution was to clean the pins on the headers. It
then worked fine ever since. If you have any questions, email me back. John.

Hi...
It´s ok to clean the contacts but...
The best stable solution is to open up the VFX and detach the middle
approx. 10 keys (unhooking the springs on the back of the keys first!)
and then SOLDER wires between the two keyboard sections.
That was done in my VFX, but some repairman hadn´t done it right, so in
the middle of a gig it started playing those small melodies by itself..
(Not very handy in the middle of a song).
I didn´t know what the problem was until I open it up and looked closer.
I resoldered the wires between the two boards, and it´s been working
since then (1995)...

Thanks for the quick response , but the problem i have is that my SD1 does
not even reach the calibration page, all i get is the disk drive led light
up briefly then nothing, i.e., blank screen and no sounds.

Tony.

Try checking the fuses. There are 5 fuses the top two sometimes blow,
if you have a bad connection on a ribbon cable. check those too.
fuses one and two ( the top two) will cause no display/ seemingly dead
machine if one or both is bad.

In regard to these fuses you mention. I just remembered something
about 2 of the fuses I saw inside my board that are wrapped in
foil!!..Maybe that is my problem?..what the foil all about?..how do I
replace them?--- In Ensoniq-VFX-
