I see these disks sold for nearly US$2500...wow! Is the buyer a member here? I hope we will find out if the disks are still usable. --- In Fairlight-CMI@yahoogroups.com, linear226@... wrote:

I think the dubious honour of the most expensive ones goes to myself. Half asleep, accidentally bidding against another enthusiastic member...and winning. Put your hand up, other member!
Got a few others as well. And yes, at least one other member got a few!
Yay! \o/
We'll keep y'all posted as to what was on 'em, if anything useful. I think the PPG ones might be 8" waveterm B, and the CMI ones II or IIx. We'll know more when they arrive, of course.
Hopefully all who won floppies are in a position to imagedisk 'em, and they all have rare and wonderful content for our continued content-ment.

Hand up. I was one of the other bidders. Though not the +£300 one. Unfortunately my pockets weren't so deep. I really hope these disks still contain all their data. Let us know. Cheers, David http://dvdborn.blogspot.com --- In Fairlight-CMI@yahoogroups.com, Joe Sleator <joe.sleator@...> wrote:

Yes! Else the description of this undertaking will have to replace the current example for "fiasco" in the dictionary.
In my experience with forens-ifying 8" floppies, I find they're often more robust than smaller ones. The bits seem less likely to come unstuck and fall off onto the floor, and seem less appetizing to the dreaded ubiquitous bit-munching animals that lurk inside dark storage boxes.
My inner control-freak is secretly hoping to account for each diskette and at least be on speaking terms with its new owner.
If someone did buy one or more CMI or PPG diskettes for hundreds of pounds and wasn't on the CMI or PPG mailing lists that would be quite intriguing, wouldn't it?

Yeah, that is crazy !!! I wonder what my IIx Mike Oldfield library would go for ;-) Really curious if they still work...also most of the PSB drum sounds on the first album came from the Emu SP-12 (even mostly internal sounds) as far as I know... Great tracks anyways :-) On Dec 5, 2012, at 11:48 PM, KyleR wrote: > I see these disks sold for nearly US$2500...wow! > > Is the buyer a member here? I'm not kidding, but I'm not selling them either :-) I made backups of all my Disks to 3,5" Floppies, as I have the IIx with this feature. Now I'm thinking about installing a Floppy emulator or a CF card reader, but have to find the time and muse to do so. It's easier to make image files from the 3,5" then the 8" Disks and vice versa. And you're right, who dares wins ;-) On Dec 6, 2012, at 11:43 AM, Joe Sleator wrote: > I wonder what my IIx Mike Oldfield library would go for ;-) You are kidding, right? If not, I sure hope you have backups! Add to the craziness in general that is eBay (where you generally win by acting crazier than the competition) the craziness of not knowing whether a single one of the diskettes contains real data, but parting with real money nonetheless. What you then end up with approaches weapons-grade crazy and has to be stored in special containers under armed guard. I'm going by the (possibly inaccurate) aphorism: "Qui audet adipiscitur" The important, if less well-known footnote being: "Qui audet, Asinum suum, Ad eum ut possit etiam tradidit" I'd of course rather the former! Very Funny . . . How do they peaople give me money for historical and original sequences and sounds of : Michael Jackson, Mike Oldfield, Jean Michel Jarre, Arf Of Noise, Indochina, Kate Bush, Tears for Fears, Laurie Anderson, Genesis, Depeche Mode, ... ? For Fairlight CMI II, III and Ned Synclavier and Emulator I, II :) In 8", 5.25, 3.5" and image disk (work fine under HxC) ! JB Le 06/12/2012 12:02, Joe Sleator a écrit :

Bonjour Jean-Bernard, Just name your price. :-) I'd love to get my hands on the Jarre and Kate Bush stuff. I see you didn't mention Peter Gabriel. I could exchange the PG live disk for one of yours. If it's Series II stuff of those artists, yes, you can name your price...
