Pioneer DVR 109 (G5 Super Drive)

Pioneer DVR 109 (G5 Super Drive)

2007-02-23 by HKC

Has anybody ever had any compatibility problems with this drive. I just bought a spindle of DVDs that gives me an "internal hardware" message after burning for a little while. No problems with CDs. I happen to have a DVR 108 in a PC at home which also have problems with this particular "no name" brand. I also have a ASUS laptop which burns the DVDs without any problems so it's no because the DVDs simple don't work.
I have already bought a spindle of Verbatims to see if that solves the problem but I wonder if anybody else has had similar experiences. There´s still warranty on the drive so it's no big deal just a bit strange because I have never had any problems before.

I have a DVR 109 in my PC and have trouble with a lot of DVD media.
Most recently, it won't give good burns on Memorex 16x DVD-R discs, no
matter what speed I burn at. Same media works perfect at 12x in my
MacBook Pro. Time to toss out the DVR 109 and get another burner.

crappy media? who makes shit for memorex these days? CMC? stay away,
memorex is a junk brand, they don't make anything themselves, like most. and
some media is only good written at certain speeds. start with only Made in
Japan media like Taiyo Yuden and some Maxell, then try Verbatim--at the
recommended speed. But for anything important stick with made in japan
media.

This particular spindle of Memorex DVD-R's uses the RITEKF1 media.
Although, I just got the water-resistant inkjet printable Taiyo Yuden CDRs.

well, let us know. it's all cheap, but finding quality may be costly.
look into it a bit, but TY has awlays been one of the best. ten years ago
those were the CDRs i bought. they ALL still work, actually the only CDR's
i've encountered thus far that are junk--unreadable are memorex.
the important thing here is...who knows! what was made 10 years ago is not
the same as today. but know the manufacturer at the very least. stay away
from CMC crap-tdk, memorex.

I've had one for about a year and the onlt media I had problem with
was and old batch of slow 2x DVD's - don't remember the brand. The up
side is that it's one of the few drives on the market that can
actually write ISRC codes as part of an audio CD - in spite that many
other models claim that they can - they actually can't.

Kind regards

It seems that it could be the medias. For the record I have been very satisfied with the burner until this. I haven´t had time to try out the Verbatims but in the worst case there´s still 2 months left of the warrenty.

Thanks for replying

I just wanted to follow up on this thread that I posted about my super drive all of a sudden started turning DVDs into coasters. It does seem like it was the DVDs, a cheap no name brand. After changing to Verbatims I haven't had any errors.
