Marcos for Sale soon...

Marcos for Sale soon...

2007-01-05 by Paul Weidner

Hi,
Haven't been on this forum much for a while, I've decided I'll be
selling my Marcos this Spring and thought I'd post here now to see if
there was any interest.

1984 Marcos SN 8083 blue with tan leather interior. This is a LHD USA
model with the Ford 2.8 V6 driveline, imported by Bob Boston back in
the day. There are a couple shots of it in the photo area. I've had
this car since 2000 and have put on about 4,000 miles in that time
(Live in Minnesota, stored 6 months of the year). Body exterior is
good, leather interior has "patina'.

As with all cars of this type, there is always something that can be
done, however below is a list of what I've had done since I've owned
it (all work done by mechanics)

Suspension/steering upgraded with the Heritage anti bump steer and
active handling packages.

Electronc ignition, three modules/sensor and notched plate setup.

Clutch/Transmission rebuilt

This car is a driver, not a show car (but always a point of interest
at any show).

Why am I selling?

My interest has gone to autocross and Mini's, currently also in my garage:

1959 Speedwell Sprite (Bugeye with competition aerodynamc bonnet,
brooklands windscreens and cut down doors)

1973 ABC Tricar (two seater open Mini based special, front clip of a
classic Mini (998), three wheeler with tube frame/fberglass aft of the
firewall)

1999 Miata Sport (what can I say, best (copy of a) British car ever
made...)

I can only drive these cars 6 months a year & I've decided four is too
many --- and I've had the Marcos longer than any of the others.

email me if interested, feel free to pass this on as well...

Thanks!
Paul

Paul,

Sorry to hear that you have decided to sell the
Marcos, but it sounds like you still have some very
unusual cars in the fleet. Also now another person
will get a chance to own a Marcos.

Your Speedwell modified Sprite is of interest to me
because I have been into Bugeyes since the early '70s.
I also have a Speedwell bonnet and many other period
pieces on my Sprite. I am sort of curious about the
cut down doors on your car? Can you send me or direct
me to a picture of that modification.

I am currently working on an Alexander cross flow
aluminum head to be installed on a modified 1098
block. There were only about 100 of these heads
produced and valve train parts need to be made from
scratch. This Alexander engine along with the 5 speed
conversion will be in my Sprite in time for the 50Th
Anniversary celebration of the Sprites. Both bonnets
will be also set up for quick change.

Six months of driving activity just would not work for
me. We recently had a turn of 60 plus degree weather
here in Blue Ridge VA and I have taken the Sprite and
the Marcos on several spirited blasts through the
mountains here in SW Virginia.

Hoping you and the rest of the Marcos Maniacs are
having a great new year.

Bob Magnotti

New Marcos Owner (Re: Marcos for Sale soon...)

2007-02-26 by Paul Weidner

I just thought I'd pass on that I just sold and delivered my 1984
Marcos SN 8083 to a new owner... He saw my posting below from this
forum and contacted me, several weeks later the deal was done &
delivery was made. I had two contacts from this post, one was within
30 miles of my house (looking only, his dad used to build them in the
60's) and the buyer, who owned another Marcos in the past.

On another note, would the Marcos/Sprite owner email me again, I never
sent you the pix of my Sprite that you wanted, I lost your email
address. I'll email you the pix when I get your email...

It was a fun car to own but time to move on, interests changed as
stated below...

Good luck to all with your Marcos Cars!

New Marcos Owner (Re: Marcos for Sale soon...)

2007-03-03 by Paul Weidner

Don,
I did enjoy the time with the Marcos, but when I put under 500 miles
on it this past summer that told me my interests had changed. I'm glad
I sold it, I recently looked at a Autocross specialized/heavily
modified Renault R5, the car was parked several years ago, parts
pulled off for working on & then it became an extra "shelf" in the
garage... Sad because it was extremely competent before, took 4th or
5th fastest of the day on more than one ocassion, had Renault Cup race
parts in it, custom suspension & rims (7" alloys) Would have hated to
have something like that happen to the Marcos...
As for the new owner, I'm not sure if he's a current forum member or
was just surfing the group but I'll let him introduce himself when
he's ready...
Thanks & good luck to you too,
Paul

I put less than 500 miles on my Marcos last year and
enjoyed every one of them. The best time spent
standing beside it talking about it. It would be too
easy to sell but why would I do that?

I agree with Bob, I put 671 miles on the Mantula, 400
on the 74 TVR 2500M and 5,000 on the newest toy a SRT8
Charger, all of them get plenty of comments.

New Marcos Owner (Re: Marcos for Sale soon...)

2007-03-05 by Paul Weidner

Bob,
Please email me your email address so I can send you the pix of the
car you wanted. Once I have that I can keep you updated as well.
Right now I'm thinking of the 45 DCOE conversion (SU's currently) and
a distributorless ignition setup...
Thanks,
Paul

Re: [MarcosManiacs] New Marcos Owner (Re: Marcos for Sale soon...)

2007-03-05 by Bob Magnotti

Paul,

My address is rhdspritemk1@... because my
sprite is RHD.

I currently have the Weber 45 on my stock block 1275.
It runs great. I would never go back to the SU carbs
even though I have done all sorts of mods to the SU,s
for improved performance. The rest of my engine is
very modified.

The pointless ignition is a good mod but I have found
that the points set up works very well also.

Unlike the Marcos where the distributor is under the
front carb the Sprite does not have that problem. You
can remove the distributor in 2 minutes and service
the points and reinstall it in no time.

I am working on a cross flow head for my sprite and
will at that time need to go to the pointless set up.

Re: [MarcosManiacs] New Marcos Owner (Re: Marcos for Sale soon...)

2007-03-27 by Marvin Miller

Hello all,
I am the new owner of Paul's SN 8083 Marcos... and I apologize for the delay in entering the chat room. I was a previous Marcos owner (1970 Marcos GT, Volvo drivetrain, I think the SN was 3570). It needed a full restoration, and after a few years I sold it to a guy near Vancouver, BC. I've always missed it.
"Paul's Marcos" is nice... a strong engine and good brakes, but I will probably update the interior soon. I will be looking for odds and ends... things like the "Marcos" badge that fits on the trunk lid, and ideas to improve the overall appearance.
Sincerely,
Marvin Miller

Marvin,

I am about to finish my restoraton, and I spent 2 year trying to make the body as uniform as possible. The roof line on the right side over the window frame is about 3/8" shy of covering the frame and is lower on the right rear windscreen than on the left. This is on the 1970 models I know as I have redone 2 of them. I reshaped the roof both over the door and rear screen. Also, I trued all gaps around doors, bonnet and boot lid. The spacing around the door seals have been reshaped so seal touches evenly all around. Before, there was several areas of no contact that made for a noisy ride with the wind whistling at speeds above 25 MPH.
There are several places to wathh for structual cracks whe (if) you remove the body. Buzz me if you get to that point and I'll be glad to advise you, if you want to go to all that trouble. The '80 model may not have these problems, but the badies were made from the same molds, soI expect they are the same.

Regards,
Larry

New Marcos Owner (Re: Marcos for Sale soon...)

2007-03-28 by Don Lattimer

Welcome Marvin, glad you joined us! Where are you located (City,
State, Province)? I'll add your name and location the Registry.

Your old car might be #5730, that would be a 1970 3L with the Volvo
6.

owner (1970 Marcos GT, Volvo drivetrain, I think the SN was 3570).
It needed a full restoration, and after a few years I sold it to a
guy near Vancouver, BC. I've always missed it.

I will probably update the interior soon. I will be looking for
odds and ends... things like the "Marcos" badge that fits on the
trunk lid, and ideas to improve the overall appearance.

Hi Don,
Thank you for the invitation... My first Marcos was probabl 5730, and after all these years I transposed the numbers. BTW, I found Garry's site and will probably order some replacement parts from him, like the trunk badge, etc.
I live in White Lake, MI, about 8 miles west of Pontiac. If you know of other Marcos owners that are local to me, I would welcome the chance to compare notes.

New Marcos Ownerh

2007-04-01 by Don Lattimer

Marv,

I've added you to the Registry:

 http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/MarcosManiacs/files

It's an Excel file.

There are two other owners in MI, one in Ann Arbor and the other in
Richland. I have never had contact with either of these folks. Got
their names from a previous owners list. Maybe someone knows these
folks or maybe they're in the group and don't post.

Again, welcome!

Don
