Hi all Is it normal that when I'm printing patches of pure colours , the Epson driver is giving me ultra smooth results and QTR shows more "mottled" printing? Thanks

Are you limiting the inks when you print with QTR? In order to get a reasonable ramp from light to heavy printing, I usually end up limiting each ink to less than 50% and often 25% when testing my color printer. If I don't limit the ink levels, it's hard to distinguish the squares after just a few and they look mottled to me. Hi Actually I'm using the .quad file made for my RedRiver paper by Paul Roark. I think that the limit was set near 35% globally. When I print tests on Epson Ultra Presentation Matte, I get a bit of over Inking but my QuadTone Rip Ink Pattern Page doesn't shows the mottling. This week I'm battling a lot with my printer; weird results told me that something went wrong (very wrong) between now and last week. Since my prints show "blocking" I went back to printing targets. As you can see here: MHAyyijJJx-nnrbP6XlRmpf-qalk7IZZ-MY0WcpCOb0 the Cyan one is awful and my black is rapidly stopping near the 55 mark although I printed in calibration mode and 30% ink limit. It's a blurred version of the scan (so it is easier to read the lab values in Photoshop) and if you look at picture 1 and 3 in: https://www.dropbox.com/lightbox/home/Photos/EPSON%201430 You can see that I'm in deep trouble. Still searching Thanks for the tips Le 2013-06-27 13:10, Pete Bergstrom <petebergstrom@...> a crit : > Are you limiting the inks when you print with QTR? > > In order to get a reasonable ramp from light to heavy printing, I usually > end up limiting each ink to less than 50% and often 25% when testing my > color printer. Hmm, from your description, it sounds like you may have gotten some bad paper. Did the problem crop up in the middle of a package of the RR paper or with a new package? Do you have another package to try? Are you sure you're printing on the right side of the sheet (IIRC, some of their papers are coated for use on both sides, but others are not.) While I don't know which RR paper you're using, I've printed a couple hundred sheets of RR Aurora Art Natural; I've not had this sort of problem and like the paper a lot. Best of luck, Pete On Sat, Jun 29, 2013 at 5:13 PM, Jacques Caron < jacques.caron@...> wrote: > Hi > Actually I'm using the .quad file made for my RedRiver paper by Paul > Roark. Lots of variables -- the load that QTR is printing the patches would be the first one I'd be sure is equalized. Too much ink on the paper will give a mottled look. Hi Mr.Roark Actually I'm using your Red River Polar Matte curve (the one from 2011-11) on an Epson 1430 with EB6 full set. Mac Mountain Lion. Last week, my prints were OK and the 21-steps tif file was printing OK. You're right about the load since I was using an Epson Ultra Presentation Matte with the Polar curve. I think that the Epson paper is less coated or cheaper (that I don't know) So I reprinted on the RedRiver one, problem's gone for the mottling effect. Still I have a strange problem. If you have access to my dropbox folder - Epson 1430 (I'm not very good at sharing stuff on the Internet), there is some interesting results in there. The file "printer test A_new" shows what I'm printing and the results for Epson (epson_dr) shows a missing square in the yellow patch. The file "qtr_dr" is more like it but if you look at the file "qtr_ink_cal_30" you can see that something is wrong. The scan is a bit blurred so I could measure the patches using my scanner and Photoshop as a densitometer (following the instructions in your pdf). https://www.dropbox.com/l/D7pRigvH7rhsjxwMLb5Uy9/invite Thanks for any advice.
