Crane Museo Silver Rag

2006-02-17 by Diane Fields

I'm sure many of you just got the email from Shades of Paper about this new paper. I would love to hear of anyone beta testing it with the 2200--and better yet---QTR. http://www.shadesofpaper.com/ This is a quote from the Crane folks that is part of this email:
"Museo® Silver Rag™ digital fine art paper was designed with fiber based photo paper and a fine art photographer in mind. It has the semi-gloss look of a traditional air dried fiber print with the feel of a fine cotton paper and the image quality rivaling market leading photo quality inkjet papers. Manufactured to archival standards, Museo® Silver Rag™ is for use with pigmented inkjet inks. It gives exceptional print performance for both B&W and color imaging."
I gathered from the post that it won't be on their website until after PMA--but they are expecting a shipment next week. I'm debating about buying a box, but would like to hear some real life experiences with it I guess as its fairly pricey. Hope there's someone on this list that may have been a beta tester.

Diane,

A bunch of us have beta tested it and have posted our opinions.

If you do a search for Silver Rag on this site and on the Large Format
Epson yahoo site you will get your fill.

The 2200, works for color with a minimal amount of bronzing ( far less
than Epson gloss media for instance). Bronzing worse with black and
white with this k2 inkset, spraying is required, then you are ok (my
opinion). K3 inkset good for both, no bronzing issues even when not
sprayed.

On the texture-sheen issue, you will have to decide for yourself.

RE: [QuadtoneRIP] Lines across image

2006-02-17 by Clarence Walker

Just beginning with Quadtone RIP and am experiencing numerous extremely fine white lines that run horizontally across the prints. Solutions?

Too, in sizing to a standard 8 x 10 crop in Photoshop[ the printed image still had a considerable margin around the print of about 1 ¼ on the bottom and about ¾ on the side. What can I have missed?

Lastly, anyone have suggested settings that would improve the overall appearance?

Thanks John. I've been unsubbed for awhile and missed those--and knowing it was brandy new, didn't realize that it had been beta-ed so much.

I've started getting these too since running the latest QTR/GUI
download for Windows with an R2400.

Hadn't noticed them at first but they showed up on a print with big
areas of dark grey. When I looked at some previous pritns more closely
I could see them

Hurray, someone with the same problem I am having. Talked with inkjetmall
people to no avail. Went into great depth regarding dithering, I tried all
their fixes, including putting a pixel outside the image area, still getting
the same problem. Hope someone knows a fix.

Hi Diane,

I beta tested the Silver Rag. Great paper when used with the Epson
4000 pigment inks, in color. I was never able to make a successful
profile for QTR B&W, using the Epson inks. You'll find you won't be
able to use it with Piezography inks. I made a great QTR test curve
and print with it. Never seen such black blacks with Piezography inks
(I'm still using the K4.) Unfortunately, the paper takes days to
propery dry, and even then, it's very delicate. I'd heard a couple of
guys had some success using a hair dryer and a couple days drying.

Haven't been as excited about a new paper in a long time.

Crane Museo Silver Rag

2008-03-03 by Brian Corll

I'm using the K7 Neutral inks with my 2200. I'm looking for a profile for
Crane Museo Silver Rag. Can't seem to find one unless it's gon e right by
me. Is there one available, or a substitute ? I'm not yet adept enough to
create my own but I'll soon give PrintFix Pro a swing.

TIA for any leads.

Hi Brian

Those inks are meant to be used on matte papers. Silver Rag is a "glossy"
paper so, if they work at all, they won't work properly.

Well, the inks work on Hahnemuhle Fine Art Pearl, which is similar. I may
just give Crane a swing and see what happens.
