New Microphone

2008-05-05 by kmg5443

I was wanting to record some music for David using Gabby, but all I
have been using in the past (believe it or not) was this cheapie Rat
Shack desk microphone with the standard mini stereo plug. I went ahead
and ordered a Nady USB-24M that plugs directly into your USB2.0 port
and works with Audacity. It seems to be the most ordered item on
Musician's Friend.

The setup is crude, but I wanted to make it slightly less crude.

I'll let you know how it turns out.

Why don't you record your theremin direct? Does Gabby have some sort of built-in amplifier that sounds great? What am I missing here?

When I record theremin, I usually run it through a Pod, so give it a little amp colour and some delay and 'verb. I can see how that might seem a little like polluting the sound of such a great hetereodyne axe, but there are tube-pre input devices that would work much better than a mic. Just a thought.

Yeah, my Keppinger has a line output. If yours doesn't, it would be easy to add that feature, or make a passive load/DI box for the speaker level signal with a couple of resistors.

The signal quality will be much better, then you can eq and add speaker simulator if you wanted, and any other effect like a touch of reverb.

It does have a line output, but it sounds nothing like miking the
speaker. It loses something. Also, still thinking about the transients
I'm having, fuzzing on the low end, perhaps 60 Hz, and 17 Khz whine on
the high end. Me and Mark have been scratching our heads on that one.
