Pled no workee!

Pled no workee!

2006-10-14 by srmaietta

Hello list, I have been away from my gear for the past two months.
I had just tried my P3 last night (Kit, V1.5 boardset)and after a
second of no lights, they began their blinky sequence but the Pled
never came on. I could still play and tweak my sequences (we dont
need no stinikin display!) but my display never came on.

Could this be caused by a wall wart not putting out enough juice?
Its a 9v 600ma from Mouser about two yrs old..
On a related note, this kit built unit has always had a problem
where if I play with it for an hour, turn it off and then back on
again, it wont boot up, I just get a few random leds, nothing more.
Its never really bothered me but I want to get it 100% sorted before
I upgrade the OS. (3.107?)

 so NO display?
 and
no boot after beign fun for an hour or so..?

any help or tips would be greatly appreciated, my MIDI-CV will be
here within a week!!

thanks
~Steve

P3 wont boot if it doesn't get the expected response from the PLED display,
so a failing display module could explain both of those problems.
If you get a new module to try, see if the non-booting is fixed.
Come to think of it, I could probably add a little code to detect a failed
PLED, and give some indication on the LEDs to show this is the fault.

Colin, the sequencer works, its just that the display never comes
on. LED's work and it spits out MIDI, but no cool green !

For the sequencer to work without the display coming on, the CPU interface
on the PLED module must be working, but there is a problem on the module
driving the display.
The intermittent non-booting CPU may also be caused by the PLED module - if
it doesn't repsond to the CPU interface.
Both could be symptoms of a failed PLED module.
Another possibility is that if the 74245 bus driver that handles the PLED
interface is gone, it might have failed in a way that breaks the link to the
PLED display, but makes the CPU think it's OK.
You got a logic probe ?
