Gone v4 and Memx

Gone v4 and Memx

2008-02-24 by Jim Combs

Finally switched s/n 1012 up to v4 and upgraded to MemX (keeping my
other machine at v3 for the moment).

Can anyone point me to how the basics have changed? The first thing I
noticed is that I can't find how to engage my auxes anymore.

Thanks!

-Jim

They now have to be introduced first; it's no longer good enough just to
get a good dowry together and hope they get on.

FUNC+<step mode> takes you to the auxes if you're not already there, then
another FUNC+<step mode> enters aux config, as before.
In aux config the step keys select groups of events and the DATA knob (or
'next' softkey) select the precise event you need within the current group.
Is that what you meant ?

Of course it is. Duh, sorry, brain fart moment on my part. The new
menus flummoxed me temporarily and I lost my sense memory;^)

So, I guess my next question relates to Parts. Are parts like they
were in v3, now only more visible (on edit exit)?

What is that Randomize FUNC for note, base, range?

What's the maximum note count I can get in pattern with MEMX?

Small moves, small moves;^)

They are mostly the same.
Instead of holding a playlist for each track, parts now just hold a pattern
(or ghost) for each track.

Same as it ever was in v3 ;-)

16 steps x 16 bars = 256.
Use a note repeat on every step and you can have 512.
Use bar repeats on every bar, and you can have patterns that take a very,
very long time to repeat.

But with MEMX that's 256/512 maximum note count is per Part (16 bars per
part), correct?
So you can also chain Parts if needed to get more :)

And isn't there up to 4 repeats per step, not 2?

Boops,
You may have to wait patiently (with everyone else) until Collin announces
his successor to the p3.
It will happen eventually, he even recently alluded to work being picked up
on it again.
Every so ofter people ask about it, but really, we just have to wait.

Honestly, with all the attention the recent P3 sales have gotten I doubt
you'll get any special offers, so my best advice would be to hold out until
Collin is ready for the next generation sequencer.
I trust that it will be worth the wait!

So you've just duplicated those key randomize auxes up in the
keypad/FUNC/PAGE menus in addition to the aux menus?

...I think the reference was to the "Randomize Note" function on the
first page of the alternate (FUNC+PAGE) menu in edit-mode, not to
randomizer AUX-events.
The first sets a fixed value for the note currently being played using
a randomly chosen value within RANGE above the lowest possible note,
which is set using BASE, for as long as the F1 key is pressed, where
the second randomizes the chosen parameter for a step on each pass
through the sequence if the AUX is set to active for that step.
