BCR2000 and noOS message

2004-07-24 by yanayayafr

Hi,

I just received a BCR2000 yesterday afternoon from Digital Village.
Plugged it in, turned it on and installed the drivers from the
Behringer website (Windows XP Pro), seemed to work fine.

The power on version showed 1.03 so I decided to upgrade to the
latest OS version before continuing. Using MidiOX I sent the
bcr2000_1-04.syx file to the device as per instructions on the
website. There were a couple of errors shown on the device's
display, and it finished with the message "boot". I turned the
BCR2000 off and then on, only to be greeted by "noOS" displayed and
the STORE and LEARN buttons lit. The BCR2000 didn't respond
to anything.

The solution is to power on the device while holding down the STORE
and LEARN buttons. The display should now read LOAD. You then need
to plug a MIDI cable OUT from the PC, to IN on the BCR2000, and send
the sysex upgrade to the BCR2000 through this. This worked for me
and now I have a perfectly functioning BCR2000 again.

I hope this helps someone!

I found that I could not load the latest firmware from the USB
connection. I had to do it via MIDI.

Since I cannot find any valid instructions on how to link a BCF-2000 with BC Manager via USB I finally managed it this way: Create the new syx file with BC-Manager. The use the very old BC Edit from Behringer to upload it into the device. I have an old notebook with XP on it which I use for special purposes; therefore I can easily use the old Java 1.4.5. It works in most cases. Sometimes the BC Edit takes a couple of minutes to handshake or does not accept the modified file, then I play around with it a bit (have not found any systematic reason behind this behavior) and it works.
I have also found that most devices cannot use more than one channel. Therefore I cut the encoder groups to 1 per Preset and distributed the codes of other 3 encoder groups among other presets, also faders. I now have 16 faders with different addresses instead of 8 to control Moving Heads.
Otherwise an action in a preset may show unwanted effects on other controls due to multiple address allocations.
I kept the installed Presets 1-6 , since P1 is also for configuration purposes. I started at P10, since I do not need more than 6.
