CGS35 VCF - FracRack sized panel design?

CGS35 VCF - FracRack sized panel design?

2005-05-30 by flatsix01

Just finished populating the CGS35 VCF board and I am wondering if any
FracRack sized front panel designs are floating around for this board?

If not, any suggestions on 'ideal arrangement' of pots/jacks?

Thanks!
JON

I had the same issue, with CGS35 and fracrack because they are
so dissimilar in size/shape.

I ended up putting the long/skinny board on perf and mounting
the perf to the fracrack. I have some other mods as well
but the basic idea is here:

http://www.charlielamm.com/synth/steiner/index.php

You can see photos of how I built it towards the bottom of the page.

I can't speak for the exact front panel design though since my unit has
some mods that yours probably won't. However, you could probably get away
with a 2u fracrack with four knobs: freq, Q, and 2 mod pots. Jack wise,
use 3 inputs and one output, along with 2 mod inputs, so 4 knobs and 6
1/8" jacks. That would fit pretty well on 2u fracrack panel, although
assembly might be easier with a 3u one.

Oh brilliant, that's a good idea... thanks. BTW I've finished
populating your Dual VCA board (using as a final vca) and now I need
to come up with an appropriate panel for that too :)

I have considered doing a Frac-rack version of this PCB. If you guys put
your heads together and come up with a panel layout that is suitable, you
may even get the pots mounted on the PCB edge. Pots in a single virtical
line, please.

Hahah oh hell, I just spent an hour making a panel layout but pots are
arranged horizontally.. back to the drawing board!

OK - I have created both a horizontal and a vertical oriented Front
Panel Design, and uploaded them to the Files area.

They are my first attempts at panels, so please give suggestions etc.

I purposely omitted the "corner" drillholes because I am not sure
exactly where they should go? Any help on this?

So any feedback on this?

I am anxious to send it out for fabrication :)

I just upped a photo of my newly-finished, Frac-sized Bionic Filter. Yup, had to rename it,
too... I have an aversion to ticks. Anyhow, it's an FPE design, matching with the rest of my
synth.

Too many things to do, not enought time to do it, and my software was on a
