Spyder2 fails to install with latest version of software

Spyder2 fails to install with latest version of software

2008-01-11 by molitar2025

I have version 2.2 of the software installed from the CD but when I
try to install the latest version it gives me device could not be
installed error.

Windows XP Pro Sp2 32bit. I have after many attempts got the old
driver to load off the CD after doing a complete reinstall of my
Operating system. The newer driver with the newer software off the
web fails to load and the new software will not work with the older
driver.

Driver: cvspydr2.sys   ---> Loads
Driver: Spyder2.sys ----> Fails to install at all

Does anyone know a fix for this problem?

I had a problem installing the latest version of S2P on a new dualcore
dual video card build. It would not see my spyder either. I ended up
using the old version to get going.

Last night I was trying to get my OS to keep the classic XP desktop
look, for some reason it wanted to reset to the newer XP look when
ever I restarted. I tried loading the latest version of S2P again. I
got a couple of error messages, but I finished the install anyway.
Surprisingly it was able to recognize the spyder, and the program
started. So I will see if the new version is buggy or not today.

Loading the latest version seemed to fix my reverting desktop problem
also. I will know more today once I start using it.

Yes, contact ColorVision tech support on the ColorVision.com website, and they will walk you through removing all old components so that you can get the newer driver installed.

Already contacted support. This is the slowest support ever.
Everytime I respond immediately it takes them 2-3 days to respond
back. At this rate maybe I will have a working software in maybe 2
weeks. Support is abysmal for Colorvision that is for sure.
Beginning to wish I never purchased the Spyder2 I just purchased this
in August only to find out a Spyder3 is out before I have even used
this product twice and the second time it won't even work.. And it is
the Suite I purchased and they only have an upgrade offer on the
Elite.. why not the Pro I really don't require the elite version at
all the Pro would of been enough for me.. but no offer on the Pro so I
have a non working and pretty much absolete puck before even a half a
year is up :(

Over the holiday vacation, it may well be slow. Typically responses go out in 24 hours during the work week.

There should be a prewritten piece on removing the necessary components that they can send you in one shot...

Support is abysmal for Colorvision that is for sure.

Not what I typically hear, but experiences vary... I hear far more often how dedicated and helpful support is, but both types of responses are inevitable in at least some cases.

Bad timing to purchase a long existing product just before PhotoPlus Expo, and bad luck to install the new driver over the old one... there was a warning statement about this on the downloads page, but with the move of the download page to a faster server, I can't swear this is still up.

And it is

Its not unusual for the upgrade offer to be only for the premium product; its a voluntary money saving offer from a vendor, so the vendor gets to choose what product to offer it on, and typically its the premium product. In this case, Datacolor will happily upgrade your Spyder2, even though its not Spyder2PRO, so the offer is available to you, its just not the exact offer you would prefer, since you don't, apparently, need to profile projectors or tune monitors to the same settings. Sorry they don't offer something to exactly fit your needs.
