SpyderPRNT - is my sensor bricked?

SpyderPRNT - is my sensor bricked?

2015-03-26 by billhansen2008@...

I have used SpyderPRINT for a few months, and it's been satisfactory, once several adjustments were made to profiles. But now the system isn't working.

I get the error message that "SpyderPRINT can't connect to your sensor". When I plug the sensor into a USB port on my computer, I can hear the Windows "bloopbleep" indicating connection, but SpyderPRINT doesn't recognize the sensor. I tried removing the sensor, closing the program, plugging the sensor in to USB again, opening the program again. Tried that several times. I looked at options under "preferences" in the program. Nothing helped.

When I push the sensor button, no light is emitted, so I really think it's the sensor which isn't working, not the program itself.

I've written to DataColor, an I'm waiting for a reply. Meanwhile, has anyone here had a similar problem, and was able to get the sensor working again?

Bill:

I've never had that happen, although my SpyderPRINT doesn't have all that many hours on it. I would ask the usual question, have you tried re-installing the s/w on the computer, or have you tried a different usb port? And last, have you tried the Spyder on another computer? If all those fail, then it would point back to the device.

You may have tried all these things, but you didn't mention it.

My support ticket to DataColor brought a reply last night, and the answer was so simple - press the Return key on the computer keyboard, rather than the button on the top of the sensor. That works! If it's written down anywhere in the FAQs or the "Knowledge Base", I missed it cold.

This is still Bill, the OP. The sensor for my SpyderPRINT is still not routinely recognized by my computer. About one time in twenty, it's recognized, but even then, pressing the button on the top of the sensor doesn't allow the sensor to emit light, so of course the sensor can't measure.

The USB port is a good one. Several other appliances are recognized by it, and they work normally when they're connected. Other USB ports on the computer also fail to recognize the SpyderPRINT sensor, and they're also in good working order.

I have a running conversation with DataColor support, by way of a support ticket. I get about one reply per week, each one asking for a different sort of data, often data which I've already supplied. Some data, such as a serial number on the bottom of the sensor, does not exist in my copy of the SpyderPRINT program and sensor.

This is an excellent advertisement for other sources of printer profiles. Fortunately I am able to purchase professionally made profiles from another source, so I'm able to print. I wonder what folks do after they've spent the big bucks on SpyderPRINT and they're unable to purchase professionally made printer profiles.
