DKC850 Network connection with iMac

DKC850 Network connection with iMac

2013-08-02 by tintinlad320

Hello everyone
Until recently I had my DKC850 (which runs a mpx1 piano) connected via ethernet cable to my iMac and worked well. I am now in the process of changing internet provider and at this time I have not anymore a "box" which was the internet connection port, and I have change my Imac for a new generation one... and whatever way I try I cannot make a connection between the DKC850 and the iMac... Therefor I ask here for some help.

The old configuration was hooked up this way:

DKC850--> DLink Router
Imac-----> DLink Router
Internet box-> DLink Router

I do not remember how I the settings were made... maybe automatically the imac recognized the DKC850 or maybe through the web page of the settings of the internet box...
Anyway at this point now that box is not there so how to configure?

Do I have to enter something under the "network" menu of the DKC850 or in the network tab of the preferences of the iMac (I try with the router but also directly bypassung the router) ?

If so what do I have to enter and where ? The protocol selected actually is DHCP but I have tried all kind of other settings with no results. I thought the Imac would detect the DKC850 but no...

Thanks for your assistance !

Good morning, everyone.

Tintinlad320, you have clearly described your old setup. Can you similarly describe the exact layout of the new setup? It would also be helpful to know which version of the Mac OS you are running, whether your DKC-850 connects to the Internet successfully, and whether you are running the latest version of the DKC-850 firmware.

Thanks George!
My actual setup is

DKC850-->imac with a single ethernet cable
 or
DKC850--> DLink Router
Imac-----> DLink Router

One or the other for now then when the internet box is back I would like to have as old:

 DKC850--> DLink Router
> > Imac-----> DLink Router
> > Internet box-> DLink Router

The DKC850 version is:
Control system 3.30
APL system 3.20

The iMac (i5 2,7ghz) runs 10.8
I Hope it helps

Hello !

I am still stuck with this situation and I cannot find a solution so I try again here...

Since I bought a new iMac (Apple) running OSX 10.8 (mountain lion) I cannot get it to successfully "speak" with my DKC850.

My old iMac (osx 10.5) can still connect and interact without problems ...

I wrote to yamaha to ask if the latest firmware of the DKC850 or the unit itself is compatible with OSX 10.8 but yet no answer.

My settings:

DKC850 (ethernet)-> switcher DLink (DES-1005D)
On the switcher are connected: DKC850/InternetBox/Old Imac/ New Imac

-If i connect DKC850 directly to the iMac without switcher also nothing in the network tab

ps: Is anyone using OSX 10.8 with success with a DKC850 ? (if yes please communicate your network settings and sharing settings)

I'm not a Mac guy, but was osx 10.8 the one that didn't support Samba? Didn't they fix that somehow?

I dont know... Im really not at ease with all the networking business but in the options of the sharing preferences for the files there is a check box for sharing via SMB maybe that is what you speak about... but I tried cheched and unchecked to no avail

Re: [disklavier] DKC850 Network connection with iMac

Good afternoon, everyone.

tintinlad320, are you able to access the Internet update feature on the DKC-850 to verify that you have both a working network connection and the latest firmware? Can you access the free channel on Disklavier Radio?

If not, there is an issue with the connection of the DKC-850 to your home network.

On the other hand, if the basic Internet function of the piano is working, the problem lies somewhere else.

Are you trying to access the From/To PC folder from a computer?

Or are you trying to run the Disklavier Remote app on an iOS device?

In my own case, my DKC-850 firmware is up to date, and I can access the control unit from my iPhone. However, I cannot mount the DKC-850 on the desktop of either of 2 Macs, one of which is running the latest OS X 10.7 and the other is running the latest OS X 10.8. The DKC-850 does show up in the sidebar of my Finder, however; I just can't open it.

Yes Internet access for the dkc850 is working fine : radio and firmware update option both working very well.

And in some settings try outs on the iMac I have seen coming up the dkc850 unit with its folder FromToPc but it cannot be open... And also the dkcbrowser application is able yo find the dkc850 and can even lists its content ( that content though cannot be modified). And lastly with the iPhone e3 controller I can operate the dkc850...
So what is missing cannot be much.. But what?

Yes. SMB refers to samba. That is the technology/protocol that is used for the from/to PC folder.

Re: [disklavier] DKC850 Network connection with iMac

Good morning, everyone.

I have learned officially that the E3/DKC-850 cannot be accessed by the Mac Finder in OS X 10.7 and OS X 10.8. However, there is a free program called muCommander (http://www.mucommander.com) that will provide access to the From/To PC folder.

The program presents a window with a split screen. On one side, you access the directory of your Mac. On the other side, you access the E3/DKC-850. To access the E3/DKC-850, you must specify SMB as the protocol and put in an address similar to this:

To find the "dkv" number for your Disklavier, you can do either of two things:

(1) Note what dkv number shows up in the sidebar of a Finder window in the "SHARED" section.

or

(2) On your Disklavier, go to Setup : Network : Information : Name

When you use muCommander to log into your Disklavier, a window will pop up asking for a username and password. You can log in as a guest without a username and password.

NOTE: muCommander will only give you access to the From/To PC folder. If you want more functionality than that, you should get DKVBrowser (http://dkvbrowser.sourceforge.net). To use DKVBrowser, you'll need to identify the current IP address for your E3/DKC-850. To do so, go to Setup : Network : Information : IPAddr.

Thank you George for the infos the Mucomander works very well to access the FromToPc folder indeed!

And Kevin, for the DKVBrowser it starts well and lists the content of the DKC850 but I cannot get it to play anything... normal im on 10.8.4

I haven't heard of that particular problem with DKVBrowser. Especially with a dkc850 since there's no separate database... If you can see it you should be able to play it...

I'm hoping someone with more Mac experience will chime in. But in the meantime, this has become DKVBrowser support, which we try to keep off of this yahoo group and on the DKVBrowser group (since DKVBrowser doesn't apply to a lot of the older Disklaviers).

It certainly can't hurt to reinstall it, and maybe upgrade to the latest java...but, in all honesty, I can't see either of those things making a difference. Maybe someone with a DKC850/DKVBrowser combination will chime in on the other yahoo group.

Don't know how your network is set up, etc \u2013 I utilize other music "systems" like Sonos, Airplay, which leverages iCloud, some external drives I have for music230;..I always have to go into System Preferences/Sharing/File Sharing/Options --- make sure you have enabled "Share Files and Folders using SMB". For external systems that are more "PC" based this seems to be one of the keys. For Sonos \u2013 I also had to set up User as "Sonos". ;

Re: [disklavier] DKC850 Network connection with iMac

Good afternoon, everyone.

I have not used DKVBrowser very much, but I did do a brief test on a Mac, running OS X 10.7, and can report the following:

You can navigate the list of available song files within DKVBrowser and select any one of them by clicking once on the file. However, clicking once does not load the selected song as the "current" song. At this point, if you click the Play button, you'll hear playback of whatever previous song is currently shown as the current song just above the play button.

In order to play the song that you have selected, you must double-click the song name in the list in order to make it the current song. At that point, the Play button should work for that song. Alternatively, you can right-click (or Control-click) the song that you want to play and then select Play from a mini menu that appears.

PianoBench

Thanks for the infos on network settings; I have already selected the smb setting in the sharing prefs. And for DKCBrowser your findings George dont work for me (10.8.4) there is no reaction in any attempt to play a file (through double clicking or selecting play on the menu etc) the command dont go through.

My question about connectivity is mostly solved with the use of MuCommander to access the FromToPc folder. The other connections I have are the midi ones which I use to play (Qmidi or Cubase) and record (multi tracks) files.

I could improve maybe and Iwonder if I could also do this (play midi files and record them) on the iPad over wifi ? With the E3 controller and the other disklavier apps (for iPad/iphone) I have a remote control of the DKC850, but could I send a midi file to it that would play in a sequencer on the iPad and would such a sequencer could record my piano playing through the DKC850...?
