midimod2 only works on MIDI files so forget about using it on anything
else. if you are working with MIDI files, here is a brief description as
to how to limit the changes to piano parts. also, it you may want to
contact me for the newer version that is a little more compatible with
win 7 and 8 and has a few other mods to make it easier to use. i can
also provide a preset file that has presets to reduce to 90 through 40
percent of original loudness. you can experiment with these simple
presets before you try anything more "custom". i should probably merge
these presets into the program and will do so on the next re-write.
MIDI files have instructions called patches or instrument definitions.
they can change throughout the file as necessary but generally each
instrument is assigned to one channel. patches 7 and lower are common
keyboard definitions. 1 and 2 are almost always played as acoustic piano
on a DKV or other acoustic piano. it is your choice as to what parts you
want the piano to play. there is a vertical box in midimod2 in which you
can choose what patch number and below will be moved to channels 1 and
or 2. the default is 7 which is something like "clavinet" if you check
either or both of the checkboxes for channel 1 and or channel 2 then
only these channels will have their velocities modified and the rest
will remain unchanged, allowing you to set piano and accompaniment level
separately. if you do not check either of these checkboxes, all channels
will be processed.
this is all explained in the help file which i wrote and which makes
sense to me but that might be because i know how it is supposed to work
