[disklavier] Re: Rules of Etiquette and Use of Yamaha in Conservatories and Colleges

1999-12-22 by Todd Muncy

Well said Buffy, I knew you were a class act.

To Joe,
You're right. Volume control is an extremely hot issue, for a small number
of people. The activity on the DUG board proves it. Yes, I'm tired of the
volume control issue and made a humorous (most people say) remark about how
fatuous (look it up) the conversation had become. It would shock and dismay
me to know that anyone misinterpreted my comment to be a true effort at
censoring conversation. Have you lost all sense of humor? Why are you so
mad and why are you mad at me or this group? I feel compelled (happens a
lot) to point out a few things 96% of the group is already aware of:

1. I don't work for Yamaha
2. I don't get anything out of this site except a chance to meet mostly
great people and swap stuff.
3. It's a pretty thankless job, cheerleading a large group of people, too
many of whom take, but don't give to the group.
4. I haven't replaced DUG and forced your amazing anger toward Yamaha
through a new censored channel. Speaking of censorship, start talking price
and service (more important to many than volume) on the DUG channel and see
what happens.
5. DUG is still there and virtually all our members are members of DUG and
will receive any and all rantings and ravings about volume you send there.
I read all of them, regardless of subject line. But I can read all of this
group's mail first and put the DUG stuff off until I'm done with important
stuff like clipping my toenails.
6. The idea of different groups is different interests. We are interested
in swapping non-classical music. Should I expect all caps rants from
classical music lovers who feel left out.

I have a very elegant and totally democratic solution for you. Go to
www.egroups.com and start a new group (took me 8 minutes when I did it).
Suggested name: DkVolume@egroups.com then send a posting here and to DUG
announcing the group. I'll be happy to join and post long dissertations on
the situation in Bosnia, in the interest of free speech and democratic
principles. If you just complain about the well-intentioned efforts of
others, and don't take positive action, how can we take you seriously?

The strongest way to state your obvious displeasure with me or the group is
to send an e-mail to disklavier-unsubsribe@egroups.com . Not one person
has done that yet and I would certainly take notice if they did.

Apologies for wasting the time of 96% of you!

P.S.
If you take my attitude to be arrogant, obnoxious, self-serving and very
sarcastic, you are now aware of something everyone else already knows. As
Popeye once said: I yam what I yam. Some people enjoy, many probably
don't, but most like the group and no one is forced to listen.

[disklavier] Re: Rules of Etiquette and Use of Yamaha in Conservatories and Colleges

1999-12-22 by Andrew Sellers

This group has a few features that could be helpful. One is the polling
feature. Hopefully everyone will take part in the polls since it could be a
great source of information. It would in fact serve at times to reduce the
amount of e-mails on one subject. For Example: How many owners of IIxg
Grands feel that the !@#!#% is too loud. (The word !@#$#% has been
substituted so not to give anyone an aneurysm.)

Keeping in the spirit of Humor. At least the !@#$#% issue has served to
promote this group. Yeehaa.

Top ten polls on this site.

10. Should Yamaha supply lifts so that you can vacuum under your piano?
9. Should the !@#$#% of the piano be increased so that you can hear it over
the vacuum?
8. Should Yamaha supply ear plugs to those the have !@#$#% issues?
7. Do you think that Y2K is affecting the !@#$#% on you IIxg?
6. Do you think that BMW should replace the CD system with a DC3IIxg?
5. Should the window sticker give a !@#$#% rating and state that actual
!@#$#% my vary?
4. Can a Casio keyboard accommodate a IIxg upgrade..and will it be tooooo
loud?
3. Should we have a tar and feather feature for anyone talking about
problems like !@#$#% that does not affect the majority?
2. Do you feel that Todd Muncy should run for president?

The number one poll on this site is.

DO YOU FEEL THAT WRITING IN ALL CAPS ALLOWS YOU TO BE HEARD OVER THE HIGH
!@#$#% OF YOUR IIXG GRAND?

I am looking foward to this new forum. Just kidding about the all caps
thing Joe. I am actually totally on your side on this one.

Have a Merry Christmas everyone and a Happy new year.

I guess you are shouting because you are in all caps. You sound pretty
angry.

I enjoy using this list regardless of the type of mail it is. I believe the
purpose of most email lists is to be able to discuss any topic that pertains
to the group type. One of the most important etiquette rules of most lists
is to put the subject of your email in the space indicated for subject.
That way if you don't wish to read the email, then you can delete it.

Limiting any subject tends to surpress, and then eventually turn the member
off to any response.

I subscribe to several lists and if I want to read the mail because of the
subject I do, if not I just delete it.

Joe, it is very difficult to read mail that is in all caps. I use to do it
until someone pointed out that rules of etiquette for writing say that
unless you are absolutely angry as hell, don't type in all caps. I am very
interested in (so far) in all the mail coming from this list, as it is very
informative. I think your point is well taken (although I could do without
the shouting!). I hope that we will all realize that this a place that we
can all learn a great deal from, as well as a place to voice our complaints.
I think it is rather calous of Yamaha to take the view that they have taken
on volume.

New Subject: Use of Yamaha in Music Education

Does anyone in the group know of schools or colleges using the Yamaha for
rehearsal purposes or for teaching?

I do not have much to contribute because I basically use my piano for Opera
and Lieder rehearsal only. If there are any members that are interested in
the files that I have converted to ESQ for Opera or Lieder (specifically for
Soprano) then please email me privately. I will be glad to upload these
midi files if there is any interest.

It certainly does not offend me to not upload classical music (especially
opera which is a minority orphan of the music world). But per chance that
there is any other lurkers out there that are in my catagory, feel free to
email me directly at
