question.....DGP1XG

2002-12-25 by HedoShedo <hedoshedo@yahoo.com>

I own a DGP1XG.....is this considered a MKII?,,,it seems to do all
the things that they do,but is playback only... if it isn't,what
else does a MKII do that mine won't comments?

It depends on the model of the control box. Is it a DKC100XG or a DKC55?
The XG means it has a built-in tone generator, so if you hook up a powered
speaker or two you would be able to hear the Ensemble sounds if they were
present in the music file. The other difference is whether or not it can
use high density disks or only double density disks, and if it will play SMF
1 files as well as SMF 0 files.

According to my chart, the DKC100XG control unit came with the DGH1BXG,
playback only Disklavier (made from 1996 to 2000). You mentioned that your
piano is a model DGP1XG. I am not sure of the descrepancy.

Given the various permutations of the Disklavier (record & playback, record
only, Pro, et cetera), the terms Mark II, Mark IIXG, and Mark III tend to be
used somewhat loosely. If your unit is a DGH1BXG, the playback features of
your instrument most closely match a Mark IIXG piano by virtue of the
built-in XG tone generator, the support for Type 0 and 1 Standard MIDI Files,
and the support for high-density disks.

The DGH1BXG came out less than a year before the full-featured Mark IIXG
Disklaviers.

It's better. It is a MarkIIXG which means it is a MarkII with a built-in
tone generator. It might also be able to use high density disks as well as
double density disks, although the units I have seen use double density. It
should also play MIDI format 0 files as well as the Yamaha ESEQ format.

I think our local Yamaha dealer bought a train load of this model 2 years
ago just before Christmas. They are play-only with the DKC100XG control
boxes. My chart (the same one as yours) doesn't match what I have seen in
the field. They only use double density disks and play only SMF 0 and Eseq
formats. But they do have the Ensemble sounds.

Glad to see someone else out there on Christmas! We have been snowed-in all
day and could not get to Pittsburgh. Will try tomorrow. If it weren't for
the condition of being out of wrapping paper, I think I would have been
playing with somebody's new laptop today!

Re: question.....DGP1XG

For the record, the sales invoice says: model PDG1XG It plays high
density 3.5 floppys or all yamaha piano soft, plus or XG..I went to
the dealer and put in the same floppy i used into their 2003 model
mark III,and it sounded just the same...The piano was purchaced 4-23-
99 as new..,but may of been made somewhat earlier.
Possibly this is a model change over unit with features from new
and old.
 Happy Holidays
