lyrics on external screen

2006-11-03 by jfoodman

Sorry if this is a bit 'off topic' but it seems this is the only
Disklavier discussion group anywhere.

I've got a Mark IV and hooked up an external monitor today to see how
the lyrics display worked. I get the background and the song title,
but nothing I tried to play actually showed me lyrics. I know it's
working as I can change the background from the remote, etc. I'm
guessing it's just that very few discs actually have lyrics, can anyone
confirm? And does anyone know how to tell which will display or is
there a list anywhere of those that will work?

Regards,
Jason

Good afternoon, everyone.

Based on my limited experience with this issue, I believe the
following to be true:

When you bring up a MIDI file with lyrics, you can push the left or
right arrow buttons on the Pocket Remote screen until you get to the
Info screen. If it says that the song type is "Karaoke," then it has
lyrics. I am not sure if there is another file type that might also
be displayed with also has lyric information.

Yamaha has not been publishing song files with lyrics for Disklavier.
Yamaha has provided me with the recommendation that the best source
of MIDI files with lyric content is the Tune 1000 series which is
available from www.yamahamusicsoft.com. Unfortunately these MIDI
files are not piano-centric and therefore most Disklavier users will
probably find them to be disappointing for that reason.

Jason, try these files:

  http://www.stibbons.com/karaoke.html

These are 80+ MIDI files created from vintage piano rolls with lyrics
added by Tom Lear. The lyrics display OK through Van Basco's karaoke
player. If they show up properly on the Mark IV display as well, please
follow up and let us know.

Yes, the words for a karaoke midi do display on the Mark IV tablet. I have a Mark IV and
have tested this feature.

The format for the karaoke files must be "midi" tune 1000 format.

I also used a program GNMidi to take .kar (karaoke files) that I find on the internet and
change them to Tune 1000 type midis with lyrics that worked great on the disklavier.
Most of the karaoke files on the internet are not that good if you like just piano. But at
least you can use them to test the feature on your tablet.

You can find info on GNMidi at http://www.gnmidi.com/. They have a demo version
online that works for 5 days ... not sure if it has the .kar to Tune 1000 type midi option
available in the demo version.

It is a great program, but not available for the Macintosh. I prefer Macintosh software, but
have an old PC I use with this program on occassion.

Hope this helps.
-Joan

Mark,

I was disappointed when I figured out that nothing on my entire
system today has lyrics and the material with lyrics wasn't really
piano playing (piano didn't sound like the primary instrument). So,
I returned the extra monitor today. I'll see if I have something
else I can hook up and try ... in the meantime the guy who posted
with the tablet (I'm jealous) can probably easily verify.

Regards,
Jason

You can use Tune 100 disks for lyrics also from Hal Leonard!

In order to play a .kar file on the Mark IV it must have an extension of .mid. I can change
the extension from .kar to .mid for these files and the songs play but the lyrics do NOT
display on the Mark IV tablet.

Karaoke files must be the Tune 1000 type midi file. You can convert these files to the
Tune 1000 Midi type by using GNMidi software and they should work fine. I have tried
that before and it worked. I will verify this again, and let you know.

Yep verified, the piano roll midi with lyrics that was converted to Tune 1000 type midi
using GNMidi software worked fine and the lyrics showed up fine on my Mark IV tablet.

I believe the lyrics only appear on the wireless tablet.

2006-11-05 by Buddhika Wije

Hello to all,

Does anyone knowanything about the QSR Ancho system?

Also whats the main differance, apart from the remotePDA device on the mark4, when compairing the Mark 3 or the mark 4 to the QSR Anchos mechanics and reliability?

Also for those who were interested in the Disklavier DGH1 I am dismantaling, I have managed to find a free site and hosted some of the pictures on,

http://www.flickr.com/photos/buddspix/

I will up load some more photos of the interior parts later. I hope to pull out all theDisklavier parts out of it andputthem up on ebay sometime in February, after i return from my X'mas holidays.

Thanks

BUDD
