Hi Josue,

thanks for your reply!!! I havn't tried what you plan to test (first the CD
player then the ZIP drive in the SCSI line...). I will tell you if it will
work. My brother told me to open the CD drive, because maybe there is a
loose contact from sending it via postal mail - so I will check as well all
the connectors.

Thanks and best wishes,
Chris

  Dear Chris,

I'm trying to make it work but it has been impossible. The only choice
I still have is to try it with a different termination. I will
install the CD150 in the middle of the SCSI chain with the IOMEGA ZIP
250 as the chain ending and SCSI number, six (6). I
will try it between 2 and 5 with the CD150. Previosly, I tried it with
only the CD150, with a pasive termination (it does exist an
active termination but I haven't found the info about if the CD150 use
an active or a pasive termination, because both are
  differents).

What can I do to help someone upgrade the EMAX HD Rack
I sold them. I was under the impression it was SE and
that my SE disk banks from my keyboard Emax SE HD had
the SE OS on them and would load it upon startup?

Apparently this is not the case. The guy has done the
SCSI retro-fit and cannot use it properly without the
OS SE upgrade.

I feel bad for the guy and would like to preserve my
integrity as a seller, owner, and lover of EMAX's.

Any help you guys provide would be eternaly
appreciated!

John B

Emax SE Upgrade

2003-03-11 by carsten_ender

The problem is, that the original SE Upgrade change some bits in the
eeprom.

So if you don't have the Upgrade, you can not use the SE System. After
upgrading your Emax, the upgrade disk can not use in another Emax.

I have a plain upgrade disk with the bit changing routine. But there
is a copyright from E-mu on this, so I can't publish it.

Re: [emax] Emax SE Upgrade

2003-03-11 by John Silveria

We have discussed the several times before and I was sure the final
decision was that the SE upgrade is nothing more than a new OS.

Anyway with the state of E-mu as it is and their complete shut down of any
service, parts, or sound library for their gear I don't think anyone is
going to care if you offer images of your upgrade disk to help support
users who E-mu like to now pretend don't exsist. If you don't feel
uncomfortable sharing the disk personally then contact me and we'll find
a way for you to get me a copy and I'll offer it to everyone myself. I
honestly don't think they are going to care, after all they sent me a disk
with every final OS (plain Emax, SE, SE HD, Plus, and Emax II) they had so
I could offer them to users and certianly those are something they would
be more protective over than an upgrade disk. If E-mu knew what was good
for them they would just put every piece of information on their
discontinued equipment out there even if it was just through Rob and I.

In similar news I am still on the look out to purchase an Emax SE HD rack
so I can start offering the sound library and all the versions of the OS
to anyone who wants it. I need an SE HD because I'm going to add an
external SCSI port for zip support so I can easily copy 72 banks at a time
to floppy. I recently saw a group of 36 Emax banks go for $48 on ebay and
I cringed.

RE: [emax] Emax SE Upgrade

Hi,
I am happy to publish the Emax SE upgrade on the web site (free download)
and sort out the copyright issue with E-mu Systems. In fact I did try and
find the upgrade at Scotts Valley HQ last year, but E-mu have lost the
master. I can extend my license agreement with E-mu Systems (thanks Dave
Rossum) on "obsolete" code, to cover the Emax SE upgrade.

This license agreement means I can provide/sell Emax Boot ROM and PAL
chips - if anyone is interested let me know.

Regards

Excellent. Does this mean you will be offering memory upgrades soon? At least to those
of us with daughter boards already.

I'm interested in an upgrade for my Emax II. The motherboard has a lot
of unpopulated IC sockets - are these for expanding the memory, or are
they for using alternative memory ICs? Also, if you ever find out how
to get past the security code thingy, that would be interesting too. I
suspect a bit of disassembly and patching might produce a workable
"crack" for it.

Cheers,
  Gordon.

How much memory does your Emax II already have? I know that without a
daughterboard the most you can get is 2Mb. The daughter board is required to go
beyond that.

Ah, bollocks. Mine is indeed 2M. Presumably then, the extra sockets
are for using something like 4464 DRAMs instead of the 44256s that are
fitted. And I'd guess that the daughterboards are no longer available?
If you can get hold of a set of PALs and a daughterboard (you need to
change the PALs, don't you? I remember someone saying that) then I can
probably copy them.

Cheers,
  Gordon

is there any chance for those without daughterboards? i'd love to have more

Has anyone in the group considered having daughterboards printed? i know
this would probabaly/definately be a breach of copyright, but it could be an
idea. I suppose it would also depend on the interest as far as i know it
would cost the same to print 100 as it would to print one. It seems strange
that people would do an upgrade for those with daughterboards and not for
those without.

RE: [emax] Emax SE Upgrade

2003-03-12 by John Silveria

The best description I have of what the daughterboard memory upgrade entails is in my
Emax II FAQ on my website. Which by the way is Shockwave and Frames free now so
those of you who use simpler browsers can now view it. The Emax II memory upgrade
for the daughterboard includes 4 memory expansion PALs, the infamous install disk,
and the expander daughterboard which can be difficult to seat and requires you to
remove a chip from the motherboard where it will plug-in. I've been told before that with
what it would take to get the parts reprinted or even swap out the parts from another
Emax II it would easier just to purchase an 8mb one instead.
