Emu Emax 1 external SCSI Card Reader Problem

I have an Emu Emax 1 with the external SCSI jack. I can get it to
work with an external Zip disk fine. But when I try to use it with my
external MicroTech card reader I am having problems. If I set the
drive to SCSI id 1 I can boot off my floppy frive, format the card
(card slot 1 with a PCMCIA 20MB card). I can then use the copy
software option to put the OS on the card and go ahead and start
saving to the card. All works fine until I restart the stystem. If I
take the floppy disk out to boot off the Card Reader it freezes on the
loading system screen. If I reboot with the floppy it will boot but
when I go to use the Card Reader it will say something about no
hardrive table found. Then if I boot off the floppy and use the
verify hard drive - (Master - Special menu) it will find the drive and
verify it is fine and then I can save to the drive.

The problem is that I can not boot off the card reader (need to use a
floppy all the time and I have to verify the drive (takes about 3
minutes) everytime I want to use it.

Anybody have any suggestions.

Thanks for any help.
Joe

Hi
I can not boot off the Zip because it only sets to SCSI id 5 or 6.
The Emax is looking for SCSI id 0 as the boot drive.

Hello,

I built a scsi zip into an external case and set it to ID 0
and it does indeed boot. One thing that's different about
the external zip i made vs the factory purple zips is that
after the emax and the zip drive have been turned on for
awhile it seems the zip goes to sleep and cannot be
accessed until I powercycle the zip enclosure. It's a
little annoying but not a show stopper.

Regards,

Mike Wolak

or am I misunderstanding the problem.

Thanks

You options would be;

1) install a HD internally to boot from then mount the externals
2) get an internal SCSI ZIP drive and mount it in a case with the ID
jumpers removed so it registers as "0"
3) see if you can find a Reader or case for the reader that allows you
to set the reader to "0"

You really never want to boot from floppy it just makes the unit run
slower since when you are accessing different modules it reads from the
floppy.

Move to quarantaine

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
