SCSI Help

2002-01-17 by francopz@...

Hello, all..

I just purchased a Syquest EZ135 SCSI drive for my Emax II Rack. I currently
have an internal hard drive installed and assigned to SCSI #5. The Syquest is
set to #4. When I boot up, the system hangs up on #5 (the internal HD), and I
have to boot from floppy. The unit will not recognize the Syquest (it reports
NOT EMAX2 DRIVE), and also not recognize the internal HD. There was an active
terminator supplied with the drive, and it's connected to the Syquest.
Does anybody have any idea what I can to do remedy the problem?
No matter what SCSI ID I assign to the Syquest, I get the same result. I
know that the Syquest is compatiblebecause I''ve heard so many people mention
that the use them.

I look forward to your help...
Frank

My guess is that it's the internal drive causing the issue. Perhaps it has it's termination
turned on as well. My Set-up is just like what you are attempting, I have an internal HD
set to ID #1 and a Syquest EZ-135 set to ID #2 with the terminator connected. I have no
issues. If the internal drive is working prior to the EZ-135 then my guess is it is
terminating and needs to have that turned off.

As far the the Emax II reporting that the Syquest drive is "Not EMAX2 DRIVE" that is
correct. Until you let the Emax format a cartridge in the drive technically it's not an Emax
II drive, but at least by the Emax reporting that you know it is seeing and trying to read
the drive.

Thanks for the info. Now the next question: How would I turn off the
termination in my HD? I have a Conner CP-30540. If anyone could let me know,
I would be most appreciative!

Frank, The info you need is located here at the Seagate hard drive
website.
http://www.seagate.com/support/disc/specs/conner/cp30540.html
It looks like E5 is the one that you want to remove. Some times some
SCSI drives will not work with others or you may have to change the
order in which they are wired or the SCSI ID. Keep trying.
Good luck,
Skip
