Emax II backlight inverter

Emax II backlight inverter

2010-11-17 by Louis van Dompselaar

Does anyone here happen to know what voltage the inverter for the Emax II backlight runs on?
I want to replace mine with one of the silent SMD ones from backlights4u but the smaller one
can't run on 5V and the Emax II one might just run on 5V.

If no one knows I'll get the board out and find out, but would safe time if someone does.

Louis

5v only on the emax but you can fit a 3v version but you need to add a pot or resister to bring it down to 3v

Thanks Jammie

It has a new backlight and new sliders so it was annoying that the new backlight actually made the whining worse,
so much so that I actually can't have it on without getting a headache... (and I'm not mentioning what it does to the cats...)

Although having written what I did below, I must admit that my last attempt yesterday has worked better than expected.
I pumped the transformer in the inverter full of plastic spray (the one you use to coat PCB's with) yesterday.
This has now hardened and has almost completely silenced it.

Oh well, trust me to check that AFTER ordering the new inverters...

are you sure it is the backlight and not the Inverter block on the main
logic going bad?
That is a part easy to replace that can also cause noise as it vibrates due
to the transformer....

just a thought

Ted

It *is* the inverter that is causing the noise.
That's why I'm looking to replace it...

Re: [emax] Emax II backlight inverter

the inverter only changes the voltage for the contrast of the lcd remember from + to negative which was how the old lcd worked

the efoil converter is a power switching transistor and a step up transformer so that it can take a 5v signal and change it into a 5v ac signal which is then aplified by the step up transformer for the correct required voltage for thwe efoil to produce light

this is on the main board its a green square this is the item that produces a whine when you loose the backlight they also can get dammaged from a backlight fading for to long the produce a high pitched humb
